Ukulandia Artist-in-Residence 2022

Ukulandia is inviting writers, musicians and artist from all fields, regardless of age or nationality to apply for an artist in residence period of minimum 2 month in the South of spain, Province of Malaga. Ukulandia offers artists, creators or composers the possibility to work and live in the idyllic and impresive environment of the mountains and the 'pueblos Blanca' of Andalusia. Cortes de la Frontera is a lively small town 30 km away of the bigger town Ronda. Cortes is surrounded by 3 Natural Parks: Arconocales, Grazalema and the Sierra de las Nieves. Ukulandia will provide a big Safaritent (5 X 11m) at the bottom of the finca or a very small writershut underneath the house with a big terrace. Send your application to [email protected] together with a portfolio (max. 20 images) containing recent works, processes or projects and a brief artist’s statement or motivation (max 500 words) Don't forget to mention your preferred date to stay and work at Ukulandia.

Never ready digging...

After the enormous landslide of last winter, we could use some helpful people to think with us and find solutions to make things better. We are now planning to make some camp spots for tents or campervans to make the best out of it. The olive garden lost many trees because of the flood.

It is our dream to have more people living on the mountain. (Not only now but also after we died!) We love to be creative and be together with mindlike people, to make music or short films, writing, dancing, yoga or ukulele retreats... many things will be possible by connecting and connectedness.

Finally, half a year after the desastrous rainfall, the road in front of our hour is going te be repaired. Not that they inform you in advance that you can’t leave your house anymore… 🤠

Pueblos Blancos Music festival. Once a year in the area and real good bands. In Cortes there's just one evening, but more in Montejaque and Ronda. This band here is Joe King Carrasco and the Tacos Locos...

Today we planted the Vetiver on the rim of the landslide. This is a sort of grass with extreme long roots to protect the soil from further erosion. After the landslide in februari we set up a gofundme project and with the first donations we have begun to restore and save the place from further damage.

LANDSLIDE NEWS!
WOW! The first €1000 is donated!
A lot more is needed to make it all happen... but
We will make a start with planting vetiver on the top, to hold the ground together, including a irrigation system. And also make a beginning at the very bottom of this disastrous hole... a huge plateau to start with.

We also invite people that want to help at the location itself, or watering the plants throughout the summer!
