Artec Studio Dedicated to design social and artistic expressions of light that infuse a positive impact on people.

Artec Studio is an international awarded light workshop with over 20 years of experience, founded by lighting designer Maurici Ginés in 1998. We work with light, developing projects in architectural lighting design, creating light-art works and luminaires, from our offices in Barcelona, México City, Madrid and New York. The aim is to offer our clients all the potential that shaping light can provide, creating works that connect the space with people and corporate and institutional identities, encouraging perception, knowledge and emotion. In order to do so, we are organized in specialized departments:

Light as a shared language

Jose Cardona, Principal and Office Director of Artec Studio Mexico, was selected as one of the six workshop heads at Lights in Alingsås, Sweden.

Together with his students, he created a light installation inside a concrete underpass. Lines of light points run across temporary construction fences along one wall, building a luminous grid that shifts from violet to pink, red and amber. On the opposite side, a reflective metallic skin catches the colour and doubles it, blurring the limits of the tunnel.

What is usually a space of passage becomes a place to pause. Visitors walk through it, stop, and become silhouettes against the light.

In this third chapter of Palmares, we turn to the 357 apartments. The same red concrete planes that define the Casa Club and vilas extend here, bouncing light rather than projecting it directly. Rosa Zarci marble floors hold that warmth, glazed façades keep the ocean always in frame.

Among the 103 villas at Palmares Ocean Living & Golf, the lighting designed by Artec Studio disappears entirely by day.

By night, those same fixtures quietly come into their own. Light is indirect and bounced, grazing the concrete volumes and canopies rather than projecting outward, so the villas settle into the pinewood like subtle lighthouses.

We are back to work with a project that stops you in your tracks. This time in Portugal 🇵🇹

On a gentle rise above Meia Praia, where the pinewoods of the western Algarve give way to the Atlantic, Palmares Ocean Living & Golf unfolds across the landscape rather than over it. Designed in its entirety by Pritzker Prize winners RCR Arquitectes RCR Arquitectes for Kronos Homes Kronos Homes the resort gathers a clubhouse, residences and signature villas into a single architectural language: overlapping planes of red pigmented concrete, tinted with the clay of the Algarve soil, stepping down with the terrain toward the sea.

At the Casa Club, the social heart of Palmares, light works with the building’s tiered slabs and multifaceted columns. Warm, restrained illumination settles among the terraces and lounges without breaking the continuity between inside and out, letting the panorama of Meia Praia, the Alvor estuary and the Monchique hills remain the protagonist as day turns to evening on the Al Sud restaurant terrace.

For Maurici Ginés Maurici Ginés founder of Artec Studio, light could only be an extension of RCR’s architecture, never an addition to it. Luminaires reduced to their smallest expression, almost dematerialised, so that what is read is the architecture itself.

There’s a moment every evening when the sun touches the horizon and everything slows down. Solo for Vespre Design was born to hold onto that moment.

Now it holds a Delta Bronze at Premios Delta 2026, ADI-FAD’s recognition for the best industrial design in the country.

Inside The Palace’s rooms, there’s no statement to make. A bedside lamp, a sconce by the headboard, a reading light angled just right: each piece chosen for its own presence.

That’s the whole idea, room by room: the hotel doesn’t perform for you here. It just works, quietly, the way a good hotel room always should.

In the common areas of The Palace Hotel, light stays in the background. The decorative pieces take the lead: period lamps, mid-century pieces, each one carrying its own identity. Our aim was to make sure those pieces read exactly as they were meant to.

Everything else stays behind. Recessed lighting, perimeter coves, accent points: they’re there to support, not to compete. A line of light that wraps around a boiserie. A warm glow that appears behind a panel. Accents that highlight paintings, marbles, lacquered woods, hand-painted wallpapers.

In corridors and circulation areas, discreet downlights and indirect light strips unify the path without drawing attention, letting the eye travel freely across illustrated carpets, wallpapers inspired by El Retiro, and mosaics depicting the Royal Botanical Garden from above.

Light that holds memory 🛎️

The Palace Hotel in Madrid, inaugurated in 1912, returns to full luminosity, and Artec Studio carried out the building’s lighting design. The idea was simple: help the building shine. In a National Monument, light is there to help you see the architecture, not to show off.

The biggest part of the work was the façade, more than 8,000 square metres of it. The original luminaires were recovered and adapted to today’s technology, keeping their character intact. The light is all there. It just stays quiet and lets the building speak.

Seven ways to experience light ✨

At the centre of the Showroom is the Light Theatre: a 300 sqm auditorium for up to 150 people where light is not a support element. It is the main actor.

Through a system of programmed and controlled scenes, the space explores seven approaches to light: Invisible, Human, Guide, General, Shape, Graphic and Color. Each one defines space, perception and atmosphere differently. The same volume shifts from a functional setting to a fully scenographic environment, combining light, time and sound.
