“Shadows of Fear” by Kasia Uminska Art, charcoal and graphite on paper.
In the cosmic womb, embodied by the surreal arboreal sanctuary, a nascent soul inhabits. Once merely a seed, she has transformed into a delicate being, fully emerged yet still close to the ground. She is in the process of growing, yet she has already created this dreamlike arboreal habitat through the power of her desires. Here, like a fetus in the womb, she absorbs the nourishing energy of her surroundings, slowly maturing in anticipation of her ultimate metamorphosis. Her heart whispers of artistry, but her mind causes her to hesitate, fearing failure. Her dreams are vibrant, yet they are still shadowed by doubts. Black crows, embodiments of her fears and uncertainties, perch ominously both behind her and in the distant backdrop, poised to wound her fragile essence. Their presence is a constant reminder of the treacherous nature of self-doubt and insecurities. Yet, the bear is also present, its footprints beside her figure, symbolizing her strength, certainty, and inner intuition that drive her to overcome her fears. Guided by this intuition, she is able to manifest her visions despite the crows’ attempts to obscure her canvas. Her hair grows unceasingly, weaving into a long braid that symbolizes strength in unity and the oneness of thoughts and feelings strongly tied. This braid, connecting her mind with her heart, guides her towards her destiny. She grasps it firmly and allows her intrinsic essence to blossom, casting luminous hues upon the shadows of her fears. The black crows, once symbols of her trepidation, gradually metamorphose into light crows, epitomizing freedom and courage. They illuminate her even more and help her come to life.
Meanwhile, in the lower part of the drawing, a subtle, almost imperceptible secondary scene unfolds. Its protagonist is a little scarab beetle, embodying “Kheper,” the ancient Egyptian deity of creation, rebirth, and the eternal cycle of life. In the drawing, the scarab diligently rolls a dung ball from left to right, striving to distance itself from the ominous black crows and journey toward its destiny. Within this ball lies the seed from which a new beetle will emerge. The scarab understands that upon reaching the end of its path, it will unfurl its wings and ascend, embracing its true purpose and acknowledging that it was destined to soar. This symbolic act represents spontaneous self-creation and regeneration, echoing the eternal cycle of renewal in nature, as also symbolized by the infinity symbol formed by the braid.
In this transformative journey, the nascent soul comprehends that genuine artistry does not reside in the absence of fear, but in the audacity to create amidst it. We are the creators of the lights that illuminate us, our reality, and our path to freedom.
