This is my new short film about "La Ruta Destroy", a cultural phenomenon that took place between the late 80's and mid 90's in Valencia, in the Spanish Levante.
“La Ruta” consisted of a series of nightclubs located on the El Saler highway, the CV-500, where the Clubbing culture was born, which later became popular throughout the world.
I wanted to focus this story on those early years of La Ruta, where there were barely a handful of rural discotheques, because it seems to me the most interesting.
Already in these early years, young people from all corners of the country traveled hundreds of kilometers to arrive on Fridays, and the party didn't stop until Sunday (after that, the party started on Thursdays). If we take into account that Spain had emerged from a military dictatorship just over 10 years ago, this was an explosion of freedom and color in a country that was still very grey.
Here music, cars, drugs and s*x were not taboo, they were the norm. A very popular drug that came in small green capsules, called "Valencian Mescaline" flooded the area, which actually has nothing to do with mezcal, but was a combination of L*D and dexedrine, which causes stimulant and hallucinogenic effects. That drug only existed at that time and in that place, then disappeared and never existed again.
And why did the route end? Because he was a victim of his success. The combination of incessant partying, drugs, cars, and long-distance driving was not a good one. When road deaths numbered in the thousands, the government took matters into its own hands and police and traffic controls became so strict that people simply stopped going.
All that dear I have reflected in this short film of just one minute. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I do making it :)
