How does matter become memory?
This is one of the questions that seems to emerge from "Solid Waves", Trinidad Contreras’ exhibition at Hannah Gallery, on show until July 3, 2026.

As in science, philosophy or literature, artistic language also allows us to formulate questions and construct forms of knowledge. It is not merely a matter of personal taste or individual preference. When an artist masters their medium, they are able to articulate ideas, establish relationships and propose readings of the world that can be shared, discussed and examined.

Ceramics here function as “a seismograph of the ephemeral”, capable of capturing the energy of movement and fixing it into matter. The surfaces evoke waves, erosion, or internal pressures, yet do not represent them literally, but retain their intensity. In this process, the transient becomes permanent, as if the pieces were “fossils of an imagined civilization.”

Hannah Gallery presenta Solid Waves, la primera exposición de Trinidad Contreras como parte del elenco de artistas de la galería. Con esta incorporación, la galería integra una práctica que se mueve entre la joyería, el objeto y la escultura, donde la cerámica se convierte en un espacio de investigación sobre la materia, el tiempo y la memoria.

La exposición tendrá lugar del 20 de mayo al 19 de junio de 2026, con la inauguración el mismo 20 de mayo a las 19h. Solid Waves reúne un conjunto de quince piezas: cinco objetos, cinco broches y cinco anillos. Realizadas principalmente en porcelana y gres, las obras incorporan esmaltes, oro y lustres.

Hannah Gallery presents Solid Waves, the first exhibition of Trinidad Contreras as part of the gallery’s roster of artists. With this incorporation, the gallery brings in a practice that moves between jewellery, object and sculpture, where ceramics become a field of investigation into matter, time and memory.

Solid Waves brings together a group of fifteen pieces: five objects, five brooches and five rings. Mainly made in porcelain and stoneware, the works incorporate glazes, gold and lustres.
