Les Sondes dorées

Shown alongside the centerpiece at Homo Faber 2026, An Island of Light, curated by Es Devlin. Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Venice, September 1 to 30. HOMO FABER

To find new worlds to consume and light to devour, L’Arche Sombre sends out two golden probes. Mechanical entities sent to explore the universe, searching for what is left of the light.

Shifts in the iridescent finish inspired from planetary surfaces, reflections trought gold and beige that moves with the light around it.

I am honored to have been invited to show at Homo Faber 2026, An Island of Light, at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice.

Of the three pieces in the show, L’Arche sombre is the centerpiece.

When I work with Venetian ornamentation, I like to imagine an element of fantastic storytelling to drive the piece. This time it led me into a futuristic universe.

Referencing the fountains of 19th century Muranese furnaces, L’Arche sombre is a spaceship drifting across space in search of light, which it needs to stay afloat, devouring stars and extinguishing galaxies along the way.

Eight weeks of research, drawing and trial and error to combine incalmo, murrine and other techniques. My biggest technical challenge to date. The centerpiece is 90 cm x 36 cm x 36 cm

Made at Harbourfront Centre. Thanks to , Caelan Nowicki, jeremie st onge and Nicolas Forlini for their help.

Displayed at HOMO FABER from September 1st to 30th.
