Caminar está bien… pero cuando puedes desplazarte balanceándote entre las ramas, ¿para qué complicarse? 😂🌿

Los gibones son auténticos especialistas de la braquiación, una forma de locomoción que consiste en desplazarse suspendidos de los brazos, pasando de una rama a otra.
Y tienen el cuerpo perfecto para hacerlo: sus brazos son especialmente largos en relación con el resto del cuerpo. 🐒
Verlos moverse ayuda a entender algo que una fotografía difícilmente puede mostrar: están extraordinariamente adaptados a la vida en los árboles.

Gibbons are specialists in brachiation, a form of locomotion in which they move while hanging from their arms and swinging from branch to branch.

And their bodies are perfectly suited to it: their arms are particularly long in relation to the rest of their body. 🐒
Watching them move reveals something a photograph can hardly capture: they are remarkably adapted to life in the trees.

Mira sus patas y su cabeza. Esas pequeñas manchas rojizas y anaranjadas son uno de los rasgos característicos de la tortuga de patas rojas. Su caparazón también combina tonos oscuros con áreas más claras.

Pero tenemos otro dato que quizá no esperabas: es omnívora. Su alimentación puede incluir materia vegetal y también alimento de origen animal.

Vamos, que lo de tener un menú variado no es exclusivamente humano. 😂

Entre animales y aventuras hay un lugar en el que merece la pena bajar el ritmo y mirar alrededor: el Cactarium, un jardín dedicado a los cactus y otras plantas adaptadas a condiciones secas.

Altos, redondos, pequeños, llenos de espinas… cada uno ha desarrollado su propia forma de enfrentarse a ambientes donde conseguir y conservar agua puede convertirse en todo un desafío.

☀️ Cuando hace demasiado calor, esta tortuga tiene un plan mejor que quejarse.

La tortuga de espolones africana está adaptada a ambientes áridos y secos. ¿Una de sus estrategias? Excavar madrigueras para encontrar mayor humedad y refugiarse durante las horas más calurosas.

Y no hablamos necesariamente de un pequeño agujero: algunos de estos sistemas pueden extenderse más de tres metros bajo tierra. 😮🐢

Mientras nosotros buscamos sombra y algo fresquito, ellas llevan muchísimo tiempo aplicando su propia versión del aire acondicionado natural.

The African spurred tortoise is adapted to hot, dry environments. One of its strategies? Digging burrows to find higher humidity and shelter during the hottest hours of the day.

And we're not necessarily talking about a small hole: some of these burrow systems can extend more than three metres underground. 😮🐢

While we look for shade and something cold to drink, they've been using their own version of natural air conditioning for a very long time.
