Reawaken Project

Reawaken Project With the contribution of the COSME Programme of the European Union the CirCoAX Programme by CircularInnoBooster Reawaken is a project co-funded by the EU!

Reawaken as a cultural project has big challenges such as improving the relationship with the textile industry by sharing a more poetic and sentimental way of looking at fashion, recovering garments already existing in the family closets, and giving them a new dimension in today's world. We propose to move in the direction of eco-design and offer timeless, high-quality clothing that reduces enviro

nmental impact and at the same time share our idea to make it so that as many people as possible realize that you can recover old family clothes by making them live again through time

Poetic Memory

I walk the path of remembrance,
entering each room, approaching
To every corner, strolling through the garden,
caressing the trees planted
by grandparents, "ancient presences," and those buried by us, over time,
witnesses of family events.

The garden shed...
by
Is a suspended moment,
silent
tells of the presences of the past.

Our "Textile Language" speaks of roots, family, and familiar places, of experiences that linger in memory. It speaks of future intentions by valuing materials and redesigning forms. It speaks of culture, telling both ordinary and extraordinary stories, so as not to forget.

In this image, Valeria says, the two looks with herringbone wool fabric come from a single men's suit that belonged to someone very important to me, my second father. It's a suit from the Burberry brand, worn only a couple of times for special events or parties, and carefully preserved.

The redesign has given a new face to the classic men's two-piece suit, creating genderless pieces that have the opportunity to be combined in various looks.

This is the photo where Ettore is wearing the suit that I redesigned... it was a New Year's Eve party at our restaurant, 1997-98, and he is dancing with my mother.

"Roots allow us to acquire knowledge. They are the embryonic organ that accompanies us throughout the stages of our development. They are the constant of our identity and our culture. Through roots, we can embark on the journey of our formation. Roots bind us, but they also urge us to express ourselves.

Roots are opening a trunk belonging to my grandmother and finding an old, weathered cardboard box inside. It was wrapped in tissue paper and tied with a blue ribbon, still bearing its identifying tag. It contained a linen and cotton fabric that was part of her dowry and was destined to become a hand-embroidered bedsheet.

In my hands, this fabric has become the protagonist of a wedding dress, with details crafted by hand. I painted a peony on it using natural dyes and then applied it to the dress through embroidery. Leaves and branches, handcrafted in ceramic by an artisan artist, were also meticulously attached to the dress, one by one, reminiscent of the slow rhythm of my grandmother's stories.

I wear the dress in a poetic portrait captured by Lucilla on the island of Lanzarote. The collection that defines it is called 'Textus... Roots, the thread of language.'

Let's use fashion as a language, a means of self-expression and reflecting our surroundings.
Many have used fashion as a manifesto, as a protest, and as a social statement.
Beyond the mere necessity of appearance, clothing becomes a sign of identifying a place, a social group, a religion, or a profession.
For some, it serves the sole purpose of covering up; for others, it takes on a theatrical significance.

For us, this language becomes history, a narrative. Every textile detail speaks of roots, connections, time and space, care, love imparted through hands, and culture.

We fell in love with that dress at first sight!

It's a dress uncovered by during one of her explorations in the basement of an acquaintance's house in Milan. The dress was hidden in a box along with other textile artifacts, belonging to a beloved family member. There were some pieces of lingerie and an unworn 1920s wedding dress, carefully preserved, waiting for its moment to be showcased.

That moment, a sigh. The beloved fiancé had left for war shortly before the wedding and never returned. She remained devoted to this love, deciding never to marry. Instead, she poured her love into the people surrounding her, dedicating herself to them.

Archivio Zero Uno

Collections aren't just about owning beautiful objects; they're an expression of us. They're like a never-ending patchwork painting that narrates our story, brimming with sentiment and sparking creativity.

Valeria says about this piece:
“This 70s original silk crepe dress from my personal archive was inherited from my aunt, Marinella Caputo. Her design aesthetic and world knowledge profoundly influenced my life, introducing me to architects, designers, and artists from G*e Aulenti to Bruno Munari to Emilio Pucci, and many more. This immersion fostered my growth and a desire to experiment.”

As collectors of stories we wonder how it makes you feel to wear a particular outfit, the sensations a fabric triggers, we believe that sometimes mirroring ourselves the reflected image is that of a little girl wearing her mother's heeled shoes, or any other image that brings you back to exactly that poetic moment of evocation.

And for you?
What are your evocative images?

Only the stories remain.
It may be that there will be no places dedicated to us or big legacies to leave to posterity, but surely the stories of those who were close to us to keep us alive even if only in memories.

Sometimes clothes like scents and music accompany us in our memories, they are moments of nostalgia, fleeting smiles in our thoughts, they are inherited ancestral gestures, the glide of a hand to caress the fabric and remove a crease, the shape in which we button a garment or tuck in a shirt.

Memories are therefore made of these; stories, gestures, and teachings.

The photo depicts Valeria's grandmother during her wedding day.

The connection between the documentary and the visual collection of memories related
to a specific, everyday object such as a dress, which over time accumulates
emotional valence generates awareness of roots and culture.

The textile piece comes to life by loading itself with the stories, firstly of the people
who conceived, designed, and made it, then of the people who lived it.

It is essential to create an awareness of sustainability so that a cultural understanding of
roots lead us to their preservation by putting in place a system of protection for the
betterment of people and the environment.

Valeria writes on this garment:
“My grandmother lived with us throughout my childhood until I was 23, with her I learned the value of manual labor (especially cooking and sewing) accompanied by stories and tales.
These two garments have come a long way, they are the nightgown and robe from my grandmother's wedding night, dated 1923.
They are made of hand-embroidered silk and part of her dowry.
Studying their details and caressing their fabric evokes in me the lessons she received.”

Recovering and re-evaluating an old or vintage textile with the possibility to come
back, again and again, to be reinterpreted with a solid base of design and aesthetics
allows to reduce the impact on the aquifer system and consume less energy to produce through the recovery and transformation of something that already exists.

Last week we went to the sustainable event organized by and 😍

Lupe tried on her father's redesigned clothes with her sister also present.
We were very moved to hear her sister's words to us, "I feel like our father has entered the room and is here with us. I didn't think a dress could have so much evocative power."
Memories and emotions are a fundamental part of our project, we are really happy to have conveyed this message not only with Lupe who supported us and trusted us from the beginning, but also with the people who were present.

Memory is our identity.

The telling and transmission of these stories are a benefit for the future so that they are not lost, remain alive, and continue to recall these moments through memory.

From the hidden lessons, you encounter in the stories of people who have a long journey behind them, and which are illuminated in the hope that these will be passed on.
Through the telling of personal experiences, we arrive at the transmission and creation of a collective story that serves to overcome the barriers of apparent cultural differences.
