Abusir is the Arab name for the Greek Busiris which means House of Osiris. Its Ancient Egyptian name pr-wsir refers to the god of the afterlife, the underworld, the dead and also of the god of transition, resurrection and regeneration. He was the brother and husband of Isis and the mythological father of god Horus. Osiris was also sometimes called "king of the living", "lord of Love" or even "lord
of silence". Osiris rose from the dead and the Kings of Egypt believed, if you union with him, you inherit eternal life through a process of imitative magic. And Abusir is more than just that. Abusir is one small segment of the extensive "pyramid field" that extends from north of Giza to below Saqqara. There are a total of 14 pyramids at this site, which served as the main royal necropolis during the Fifth dynasty. The three major pyramids of Abusir are the Pyramid of Neferirkare Kakai, the Pyramid of Niuserre and the Pyramid of Sahure. There is also Abu Ghurab. The sun temples of Niuserre and Userkaf, of which that of Niuserre is the best preserved. They were built to honor the sun god Ra.
