Happy Birthday CCDC!

Friday, 12th January 2024, is the 13th Anniversary for the Cairo Contemporary Dance Center, CCDC project!

Feels like a good number to bring on winds of change...

13 Years of dancing, teaching, creating, honing artists, and developing the art form and art scene in Egypt and beyond.

13 Years of giving voice, creating opportunities, supporting and teaching the craft, to the talented and passionate.

We couldn't be more proud of our achievements and more so, of our graduates and students.

We are also eternally grateful to all our collaborators, supporters, friends, and family, who believed, supported, and contributed, to making this project possible throughout the years.

١٣ عامًا من الرقص والتدريس والإبداع وصقل الفنانين وتطوير الشكل الفني والمشهد الفني في مصر و الخارج.

١٣ عامًا من اعطاء صوت، خلق الفرص، دعم وتعليم الحرفة، للموهوبين والشغوفيين.

لا يمكننا أن نكون أكثر فخراً بإنجازاتنا وأكثر من ذلك، بخريجينا وطلابنا.

نحن ممتنون أيضًا و إلى الأبد، لجميع شركائنا والداعمين لنا والأصدقاء، وكل من آمن ودعم وساهم في جعل هذا المشروع ممكنًا على مر السنين.

As the holiday season unfolds and we approach the dawn of a new year, the entire team at MAAT|CCDC extends warm wishes to you and your loved ones. May your holidays be filled with joy, and may the coming year bring dance, health, positivity, and meaningful connections.

Throughout the years, we've consistently advocated for a world characterized by peace, justice, and freedom. As we welcome 2024, our earnest hope is that these aspirations become the cornerstone of our collective reality, shaping a brighter future for us all.

May 2024 be a time of compensation for humanity. a period dedicated to healing and restoration. Together, let us strive to undo the devastation of the past, fostering a future where compassion and understanding prevail.

📍 Please note that our studios will be closed from Friday, December 29th, 2023, until Sunday, January 7th, 2024.

Thrilled to announce during the month of July, Karima Mansour, Founder and Artistic Director of MAAT|CCDC, was honored to act as President of the Jury, for the Premio Roma Danza 2023 which took place at the Accademia Nazionale di Danza.

"It is difficult to gauge talent but that is the beauty of art and what creates the space for diversity. However in cases like competitions where not only talent counts but also how prepared and intelligent we are with our choices, it becomes crucial, given the limited time given, to create an impact. Becoming a performer requires more than just technique and acrobatics, as in this day and age there are so many wonderful schools, teachers, and possibilities for artists to hone their craft. However, it is the artistic expression, mature approach to the work, and the capacity to tell a story with our bodies, as we command the space, that gives a performer their edge.

The criteria decided by the jury president this year focused not only on technical prowess but more importantly the performer's presence and nuanced layers that come through their dance and performance as a whole.

Thank you to all the dancers who participated, a job well done. Thank you to the Accademia Nazionale Di Danza and its wonderful team, a pleasure to have witnessed and participated in this event."

Premio Roma Danza Started in 2001, becoming one of the most prestigious dance competitions at an international level. Aimed at students of the Accademia Nazionale di Danza and external competitors, it has been held over the years in the spaces of the Teatro Grande of the Accademia Nazionale di Danza.

فرقة معت للرقص المعاصر، هي أول فرقة رقص معاصر مصرية مستقلة/ أسستها الفنانة والمصممة كريمة منصور فرقة معت بشكل أولي في القاهرة في عام 1999، ويتم إطلاق الفرقة بشكلها الجديد مرة أخرى مايو/آيار 2018 .

تسعى فرقة معت لدعم مشهد الرقص المعاصر بشكل محلي والتشبيك الإقليمي والعالمي مع مؤديين ومصممين ومدرسين ومنظرين أكاديميين.

تتكون فرقة "معت" أساساً من خريجي برنامج التدريب الاحترافي في الرقص المعاصر، البرنامج الرئيسي لمركز القاهرة للرقص المعاصر، كمحاولة لإيجاد فرص ابداعية مناسبة لخريجي البرنامج والعمل على تطوير أدواتهم وخبراتهم الأدائية كعارضين و مؤديين بعد ثلاث سنوات متتالية من الدراسة المكثفة. --- المديرة الفنية والمؤسسة : كريمة منصور

Founded in Cairo by artist, choreographer and teacher Karima Mansour, MAAT Dance Company is the first Egyptian independent dance company of its kind. MAAT will introduce its new format in May 2018, after having grown significantly in scope and depth in the two decades since its creation in 1999.
