"Qaitbey Summer Camp 2026" kicked off this July with the theme "Arts Meet Heritage", helping children from Qaitbey neighbourhood to explore their area through history and art.
The first two weeks featured daily workshops: sports and movement with Zeinab Yusry, traditional percussion with Mahmud al-Masry, theatre with the renowned Mortagal Company, and choir lessons with Sherine Aboulwafaa.

Weekly sessions began with two gypsum mosaic workshops led by Lydia Malak, producing two artworks to be mounted on walls in the neighborhood. Karim al-Gebaly of ARCHiNOS led two heritage-themed game design workshops.

We also went beyond MASQ with an excursion to the arts & crafts and entertainment centre and petting ZOO Noon by Fagnoon in the Tagammu district.

Deep thanks to all volunteers, facilitators, partners, families, our Sultan Foundation and ARCHiNOS Architecture team, and above all, the children who made this camp unforgettable.

Sultan camps are always free for local children, made possible by walking tour donations and a grant from the Spanish Cooperation Office AECID. Thanks for helping us nurture young artists.

انطلق «معسكر قايتباي الصيفي ٢٠٢٦» في بداية شهر يوليو تحت شعار «لقاء الفن والتراث»، لمساعدة أطفال حي قايتباي على اكتشاف منطقتهم من خلال التاريخ والفن.

تضمّن الأسبوعان الأولان ورش عمل يومية في الرياضة والحركة مع زينب يسري، والإيقاع التقليدي مع محمود المصري، والمسرح مع فرقة «مرتجل» الشهيرة، إلى جانب دروس الكورال مع شيرين أبو الوفا.

وبدأت الجلسات الأسبوعية بورشتي عمل لصناعة قوالب الموزاييك الجبسي بإشراف ليديا ملاك، أسفرتا عن عملين فنيين سيتم تعليقهما على جدران المنطقة. كما أدار كريم الجبالي من فريق «أركينوس» ورشتي عمل لتصميم ألعاب مستوحاة من التراث.

جزيل الشكر لجميع المتطوعين والمدربين والشركاء والأهالي، ولفريقنا في «مؤسسة السلطان» و«أركينوس للعمارة»، وقبل كل شيء للأطفال الذين جعلوا هذا المعسكر تجربة لا تُنسى.

معسكرات السلطان دائمًا ما تكون مجانية لأطفال المنطقة، وذلك بفضل تبرعاتكم من خلال حضوركم جولات «زوروا قايتباي»، بالإضافة إلى منحة من مكتب التعاون الإسباني (AECID). شكرًا لدعمكم لنا في رعاية المواهب الصغيرة.

Every success story deserves a moment to appreciate the dedication and effort of people behind it.

Today, we’re acknowledging the MASQ / ARCHiNOS team whose commitment, creativity, and passion came together to carry on conservation, social engagement with the community and multiple cultural programmes in the Qaitbey neighbourhood.

From the ideas that shape our project to the hands that bring them to life, every team member’s effort, care, and shared sense of purpose contribute to what we collaboratively create and what we stand for.

كل قصة نجاح تستحق لحظة نتوقف فيها لتقدير تفاني وجهود الأشخاص الذين يقفون وراءها.

اليوم، نوجّه تقديرنا إلى فريق مساحات قايتباي وأركينوس، الذي يجمع التزامه وإبداعه وشغفه لمواصلة أعمال الحفاظ على التراث، وتعزيز المشاركة المجتمعية، وتنفيذ برامج ثقافية متعددة في حي قايتباي.

On Monday, 29 June 2026, we had the honour of welcoming the Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy, Mr. Robert Silverman, to the historic district of Qaitbey within Cairo’s City of the Dead.

The visit highlighted more than a decade of the Sultan Foundation’s work in conservation, adaptive reuse, and community development in the area. The programme included visits to CRAFTASTIC Art Gallery and the MISHKĀ workshop and gallery, followed by a tour of the Mausoleum of Sultan al-Ashraf Qaitbay, showcasing our latest conservation project.

Our sincere thanks go to our team, the Qaitbay community, the U.S. Embassy in Egypt, and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities for their continued support and collaboration.

في يوم الاثنين، 29 يونيو 2026، تشرفنا باستقبال القائم بأعمال السفارة الأمريكية، السيد روبرت سيلفرمان، في منطقة قايتباي التاريخية "صحراء المماليك" في القاهرة.

سلّطت الزيارة الضوء على جهود "مؤسسة السلطان" لأكثر من عشر سنوات في مجالات الترميم، وإعادة توظيف المباني التراثية، والتنمية المجتمعية بالمنطقة. وشمل البرنامج زيارة إلى معرض «كرافتستك» للفنون ومعرض وورشة «مشكاة»، تلتها جولة في قبة وضريح السلطان الأشرف قايتباي لعرض أحدث مشاريع الترميم لدينا.

نتوجه بخالص الشكر لفريق عملنا، وأهالي منطقة قايتباي، والسفارة الأمريكية في مصر، ووزارة السياحة والآثار على دعمهم وشراكتهم المستمرة لمذيد من النجاحات.

On Monday, 20 July 2026, the restored Mausoleum of the Sultan al-Ashraf Qaitbay in Cairo’s “City of the Dead” was officially opened following a two-year conservation project led by Agnieszka Dobrowolska, the Director of ARCHiNOS Architecture.

Present were: Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Mr Sherif Fathy, chargé d’affaires of the US Embassy Mr Robert Silverman, and the Governor of Cairo Dr Ibrahim Saber Khalil, alongside officials from the Supreme Council of Antiquities and the project team.

Carried out by ARCHiNOS under the supervision of the SCA, the 2022–2024 conservation project restored the mausoleum and its historic architectural features. The project was funded by the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation.

في يوم الاثنين الموافق ٢٠ يوليو ٢٠٢٦، تم رسمياً افتتاح ضريح السلطان الأشرف قايتباي في منطقة “صحراء المماليك”، وذلك بعد الانتهاء من مشروع ترميم استغرق عامين، بقيادة أجنيشكا دوبروفولسكا، مديرة أركينوس للعمارة.

وحضر الافتتاح السيد شريف فتحي وزير السياحة والآثار، والدكتور إبراهيم صابر محافظ القاهرة، والسيد روبرت سيلفرمان القائم بأعمال سفير الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية بالقاهرة، إلى جانب عدد من مسؤولي المجلس الأعلى للآثار وفريق عمل المشروع.

أُجريت أعمال مشروع الترميم بواسطة مكتب أركينوس للعمارة تحت إشراف المجلس الأعلى للآثار،بين عامي ٢٠٢٢ و ٢٠٢٤ وشملت استعادة الملامح المعمارية التاريخية للضريح. تم تمويل المشروع من صندوق السفراء الأمريكيين للحفاظ على التراث الثقافي.

On Monday, 20 July 2026, the restored Mausoleum of the Sultan al-Ashraf Qaitbay in Cairo's “City of the Dead” was officially opened following a two-year conservation project led by Agnieszka Dobrowolska, the Director of ARCHiNOS Architecture.

Present were: Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Mr Sherif Fathy, chargé d'affaires of the US Embassy Mr Robert Silverman, and the Governor of Cairo Dr Ibrahim Saber Khalil, alongside officials from the Supreme Council of Antiquities and the project team.

Carried out by ARCHiNOS under the supervision of the SCA, the restoration was completed in 2022-2024 and involved conservation of the mausoleum's exquisitely decorated exterior and interior as well of movable objects such as a gilded brass canopy and a wooden screen surrounding the Sultan’s cenotaph, all preceded by thorough documentation and studies. The project was funded by the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation.

في يوم الاثنين الموافق ٢٠ يوليو ٢٠٢٦، تم رسمياً افتتاح ضريح السلطان الأشرف قايتباي في منطقة "صحراء المماليك"، وذلك بعد الانتهاء من مشروع ترميم استغرق عامين، بقيادة أجنيشكا دوبروفولسكا، مديرة أركينوس للعمارة.

On Saturday, 27 June 2026, Craftastic Art Gallery welcomed an overwhelming number of people brought together by a shared interest in Cairo and the arts for a discussion that exceeded all our expectations.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for "The Ever-Changing Streets of Cairo", and to everyone whose thoughts and experiences revealed yet another face of this city that never ceases to change.

Our sincere thanks go to Mohamed Abla, Azza Ezzat, and Abdelrahman for generously sharing their artistic perspectives and personal reflections on Cairo.

We are also grateful to journalist and writer Yasser Sultan for moderating such a thoughtful and engaging discussion.
We are deeply grateful for the remarkable turnout and to everyone who made the evening so memorable.

الفنان محمد عبلة من ضيوف لقاء "القاهرة لا تشبه نفسها مرتين"

على مدار عقود، احتلت القاهرة مكانة خاصة في أعمال محمد عبلة، حيث ظهرت المدينة بكل تناقضاتها وحيويتها وتفاصيلها الإنسانية. وفي معرضه "القاهرة: نسيج الحكايات" الذي استضافه جاليري كرافتاستك، قدّم عبلة رؤيته الخاصة للقاهرة بوصفها مدينة لا تُختزل في صورة واحدة، بل تتكوّن من آلاف الحكايات والأصوات والوجوه.

خلال اللقاء، يتحدث محمد عبلة عن علاقته بالقاهرة وكيف شكّلت تجربته الفنية، إلى جانب الفنانين عزة عزت وخالد عبد الرحمن، في حوار يديره الكاتب الصحفي ياسر سلطان حول تعدد صور المدينة واختلاف قراءاتها من فنان إلى آخر.

Artist Mohamed Abla is one of the guests of our discussion, "The Ever-changing Streets of Cairo".

For decades, Cairo has occupied a special place in Mohamed Abla’s work, appearing in all its contradictions, vitality, and human stories. In his exhibition "Cairo: A Tapestry of Tales", previously presented at CRAFTASTIC Art Gallery, Abla offered his own vision of the city as a place that cannot be reduced to a single image, but is instead woven from thousands of stories, voices, and faces.

During the discussion, Mohamed Abla will reflect on his relationship with Cairo and the role the city has played in shaping his artistic practice, alongside artists Azza Ezzat and Khaled Abdelrahman. The conversation, moderated by journalist and writer Yasser Sultan, will explore how the same city can generate different images, stories, and interpretations from one artist to another.
