Documentation and the Memory of Art
Saturday 24 January 2026
5:00 – 6:00 PM
This session unfolds as a conversation between academic research and visual documentation, bringing together an art historian and a specialized art photographer to reflect on how artistic memory is formed, preserved, and often reshaped.
Framed around the question “What Has Not Yet Been Written: How Academic Documentation Reconstructs the Memory of Modern Arab Art,” the discussion explores documentation not as a secondary act, but as a foundational process that determines how artworks are remembered, studied, and positioned within history. Moving between scholarly research and photographic practice, the conversation examines how images, archives, and written records contribute to building or erasing—artistic narratives. It invites audiences to reconsider documentation as an active force in shaping cultural memory, responsibility, and historical continuity.
