This month we talked to and we wanted to share with you his thoughts and insights about himself, his music, and what inspires him to do what he does! ⚡️🎶
Maya Ma is the primary alias of multi-instrumentalist and kindred spirit Ramy Abul-Ata. Passionate about his craft and determined to do justice the legacy of his inspirations, he takes music seriously. His songs are poppy and bright, but rich in complex tones and rhythms that hint at shades of melancholy and darker depth in his design. What we can say without a doubt is he’s unique, and his music conveys a color of its own. 🌻 🏹 🎸
Here’s some of Ramy’s own thoughts on the matter of Maya Ma:
“I suppose it’s my way of channeling everything that is in me which doesn’t fit in the pretty little box that I carry around and call “me” day to day. It’s the energy that I repress when I’m pi**ed off, or overly excited, or just curious, or anything. I’m a terribly open minded person, I have little attachment to any conception of how things are and how they should be, and there’s not much room for that curious behaviour or way of thinking in our day to day. So all that funk, that energy which doesn’t fit or “belong” thats the spirit of it. I want it to inspire you to get in touch with the whole you… all of you… the inner freak, patron, animal, all of it. I suppose because I think that there, in the totality of being is love.“
