OPEN CALL: Applications are now open for our upcoming ARD South Residency in partnership with Africa Finance Corporation ().

We invite visual artists to apply for a fully supported 3-month residency in Cairo, Egypt to develop new work, conduct research, and engage with the vibrant local arts scene.

- Eligibility: Visual artists from & based in Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, or South Africa

- Residency Location: ARD Art Institution, Cairo - Egypt

- Selected Artists: 4 artists across 4 individual slots (Oct 2026 – Jul 2027)

- Open Call Deadline: September 1, 2026

لقد اختتمنا إقامة الفنانة النيجيرية تشينيلو أوراما، والتي استمرت لمدة شهر ونصف كجزء من برنامج إقامات جنوب أرض.

خلال فترة إقامتها، سعت تشينيلو إلى تخطي قيود القواعد الأكاديمية واستكشاف الفن المعاصر والمفاهيمي. وقد ركزت على تعميق خبراتها التقنية ومعارفها النظرية. تأثرت تجربتها الفنية من خلال زياراتها للمواقع التاريخية والمساحات الثقافية، إلى جانب حواراتها مع الفنانين المحليين، وجلسات الإرشاد الفني التي جمعتها بالفنان المصري باسم يسري.

ممتنون لكل المساحات الفنية التي تفتح أبوابها لنا ولفنانينا، وشكرًا جزيلاً للفنانين والفاعلين الثقافيين الذين منحونا من وقتهم لزيارة ستوديو تشينيلو .

نتطلع إلى الإقامات القادمة والفعاليات الموازية، ونحن متحمسون لرؤية التعاونات الجديدة والتطورات الإبداعية.

We concluded the month-and-a-half residency of our Nigerian artist, Chinelo Oramah, as part of our ARD South Residency Program.

During her residency, Chinelo wanted to move beyond the structure and rules of her academic background to better understand contemporary and conceptual art. She dedicated her time to deepening both her theoretical understanding and technical expertise. Her process and exploration were enriched through visiting various art institutions and cultural spaces and historical sites and meetings with local artists, as well as a structured mentorship with Egyptian artist Bassem Yousri.

We are deeply thankful to the diverse art spaces that continually open their doors to us and our artists in residency. We also owe our sincere appreciation to the artists who generously gave their time to share insights and engage with Chinelo during her residency.

As we look forward to the upcoming residencies, we’re eager to see the fresh ideas and developments that will emerge.

اختتمنا إقامة الفنانة السودانية تيبيان بحاري، التي أمضت شهرًا في أرض كجزء من برنامج إقامات جنوب أرض.

خلال إقامتها، طورت تيبيان ممارستها الفنية المفاهيمية متعددة التخصصات من خلال بحث تناول مفهوم النزوح فانطلق بحثها من مفارقة المنفى؛ مغادرة الوطن مع استمرارها في حمله داخلها أينما كانت. وتصورت هذه الرؤية عبر المنسوجات، والورق اليدوي المصنوع من خامات عضوية مصرية، والحضور المتكرر لنهر النيل بوصفه خيطًا يصل بين السودان ومصر.على مدار الإقامة، شاركت تيبيان في زيارات لستديوهات فنانين محليين، وورشٍ في النحت التقليدي على الخشب وفن الخيامية، إلى جانب ممارسة يومية داخل الاستوديو.

نتوجّه بخالص الشكر إلى جميع الفنانين والحرفيين والممارسين الثقافيين الذين شاركوا تيبيان وقتهم ومعارفهم ومساحاتهم طوال فترة إقامتها. لقد كان لتبادل الخبرات ودعمهم أثرٌ بالغ في إثراء رحلتها الفنية.

We concluded the residency of Tibian Bahari from Sudan, who spent one month at ARD as part of our ARD South Residency Program.

During her residency, Tibian deepened her multidisciplinary conceptual practice through an exploration of displacement. Centered on the ambivalence of leaving one’s homeland while continuing to carry it within, her research unfolded through textiles, handmade paper crafted from Egyptian organic materials, and the recurring presence of the Nile as a thread connecting Sudan and Egypt. Throughout the residency, Tibian took part in studio visits with local artists, workshops in traditional wood carving and Khayamiya craftsmanship, and a daily studio practice.

We are deeply grateful to all the artists, craftspeople, and cultural practitioners who generously shared their time, knowledge, and spaces with Tibian throughout her residency. Their exchanges and support profoundly enriched her artistic journey.

سعدنا باستضافة ورشة عمل، أدارتها القيّمة النمساوية باربرا هورفاث، مديرة العمليات في «PART» للإقامات الفنية الدولية في النمسا.
شارك في الورشة فنانون تم اختيارهم من خلال دعوة مفتوحة أطلقها المركز الثقافي النمساوي بالقاهرة في خريف العام الماضي. قد وفرت هذه الورشة مساحة للفنانين المشاركين لمناقشة أعمالهم الفنية في سياق عرضها داخل صالة عرض (جاليري).

We were pleased to host the workshop, which was led by Austrian curator Barbara Horvath, the head of Operations at PART International Art Residency Austria.

Artists participating in the workshop come from an open call done by the Austrian Cultural Forum Cairo last year in the autumn. This workshop offered a space for the participants to discuss their art in the context of an art gallery.

يسرّنا دعوتكم إلى معرض الفنان إيهاب إيهاب، بعنوان «مدرسة الفن المحاصر».

يتتبع هذا المعرض مساحة غير ثابتة بين المقاومة والجنون، حيث تتبدّل الأشياء باستمرار، ويتغيّر معناها مع تغيّر موقعنا منها.

عبر ثلاث محطات، تنتقل الأعمال من حالة أولى تبدو فيها العناصر مألوفة الى حد ما، إلى مرحلة من الفوضى و الضبابية تصبح فيها العلاقات أكثر اضطرابًا وتشابكًا، وصولًا إلى حالة أخيرة تتفكك فيها الأشكال، حتى لا يعود المعنى ثابتًا كما كان.

We are excited to invite you to the upcoming exhibition “The Besieged Art School”, by the artist Ehab Ehab.

This exhibition traces an unstable space between resistance and madness, where things are constantly shifting, and their meaning changes depending on where we stand in relation to them.

Across three stages, the works move from an initial state where forms appear familiar and clear, into a phase of chaos and obscurity, where relationships become increasingly tense and entangled, before reaching a final state in which forms break apart and meaning itself no longer remains fixed.

*Opening: Sunday, July 5, 2026, at 7:00 PM.
*The exhibition is open to the public till Thursday, July 30, 2026.
*Gallery hours: open daily except Fridays from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

Join us on Monday, June 29th from 6:30 pm till 9:00 pm for an ARD Residencies Closing Event for the months of May and June 2026.

It will consist of artist talks from 6:30 pm till 7:30 pm, followed by open studios from 7:30 pm till 9:00 pm with our artists in residency: Chinelo Oramah from Nigeria and Tibian Bahari from Sudan who will be join by guest speaker Sudanese artist Khalid Abdel Rahman.

It will be a special opportunity to discover their experiences and the outcomes of their research and experimentations during their residency at ARD.

The event will be conducted in English with Arabic translation, if needed.

Sharing some glimpses from the information session that was followed by a Roundtable Conversation between Dr. Shady El Noshokaty, Hana ElBeblawy, Iman Nabil, Dr. Greer Valley, and Prof. Rory Bester, as part of the Zeitz MOCAA & University of the Western Cape (UWC) in South Africa Museum Fellowship Programme.

نشارك معكم بعض اللقطات من ليلة افتتاح معرض لأطفال عزبة خير الله بعنوان «من خلال عيون الأطفال: لوحات فنية من عزبة خيرالله»، تنسيق الفنانة هدى لطفي، والذي سوف يستمر حتي يوم الاثنين ٢٩ يونيو ٢٠٢٦ في أرض.

يجمع هذا المعرض بين سلسلة من اللوحات لتسعة أطفال خلال ورشة عمل استمرت لستة أسابيع، وقادتها الفنانة البصرية هدى لطفي في مركز دوار الثقافي بعزبة خير الله في أبريل ٢٠٢٤.

ستذهب جميع عائدات مبيعات الأعمال الفنية مباشرة إلى الأطفال المشاركين وإلى العائلات الوافدة من غزة والمقيمة حالياً في القاهرة.

*ساعات العمل: يوميًا ما عدا الجمعة من الساعة ١١:٠٠ صباحًا حتى ٩:٠٠ مساءً.

Sharing with you some highlights from the opening night of the exhibition “Through Children’s Eyes: Paintings from Ezbet Khairallah” by Children of Ezbet Khairallah, curated by artist Huda Lutfi, which will run till Monday, June 29, 2026, at ARD.

This exhibition brings together a series of paintings created by nine children in a six-week workshop led by visual artist Huda Lutfi at Dawar Arts in Ezbet Khairallah in April 2024.

All proceeds from the sale of the artworks will go directly to the participating children and to families from Gaza currently residing in Cairo.
