Mahmoud Darwish (born March 13, 1941, in Al-Birwa, Galilee, Mandatory Palestine — died August 9, 2008, in Houston, Texas, USA) was one of the most celebrated poets of the modern Arab world and is widely regarded as the national poet of Palestine. Exiled from his village at age seven during the 1948 Nakba, he spent much of his life in displacement across Israel, the Soviet Union, Egypt, Lebanon, Tunisia, France, and Jordan. His poetry became a powerful voice of resistance, memory, exile, love, and the search for identity under occupation.🥀🖤
