Joseph Scriven was born in Ireland in 1819. He was educated and received a degree from Trinity College in Dublin and became a teacher. With plans to settle down and soon to marry, life was good for Joseph. Unfortunately, the day before his wedding, his future wife drowned.

The grief was more than he could bear, so Joseph moved to Canada to start over. There, he met and fell in love again, with Eliza Rice, and planned to be married, again. It is unthinkable that you could lose so much in one young lifetime but weeks before they were to be wed, Eliza became sick and died from her illness. Joseph was only 25.

From this heartache, and through faith in his God, a mission was born. Joseph took a vow of poverty and began to help the poor and the handicapped in any way he could. For ten years he made himself available to come alongside those that were in need and he found comfort and purpose in serving.

Then, unbelievably, heartache would strike again! His mother, still in Ireland and Scriven in Canada, became very ill and he did not have the funds to help her or to go and be with her. He penned the words to this poem for her and it has since comforted, encouraged and uplifted generations!

What a friend we have in Jesus

All our sins and griefs to bear

What a privilege to carry

Everything to God in prayer

Oh what peace we often forfeit!

Oh, what needless pain we bear

All because we do not carry

Everything to God in prayer

Have we trials and temptations

Is there trouble anywhere

We should never be discouraged

Take it to the Lord in prayer

Can we find a friend so faithful

Who will all our sorrows share?

Jesus knows our every weakness

Take it to the Lord in prayer

Are we weak and heavy-laden,

Cumbered with a load of care?

Precious Savior, still our refuge

Take it to the Lord in prayer

Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?

Take it to the Lord in prayer

In His arms He’ll take and shield thee

The truth is we all need support, encouragement and motivation.

Everybody needs a little cheer in their life...
A hand to hold on to.
A heart that listens.
A warm hug.
A little affirmation of the good and beauty in them.
A smile and laughter on a rainy day.
A prayer and gentle advice in a storm.
A reason to reach for a higher perspective.

We all need someone to encourage us to keep going when life gets bumpy...
Someone to remind us there is still sweet love and kindness in the world.

BE SUCH TO OTHERS ...
It's a seed sown in your own life.
May it bear sweet fruit!

رد والدها عليها : ينهار التعليم و الاقتصاد.

قالت :
وماذا يحدث بعد إنهيار التعليم والإقتصاد؟
أجابها والدها : تنهار الأخلاق.

قالت : وماذا يحدث أيضاً لو انهارت الأخلاق ؟!
رد عليها بمنتهى الحكمة :
و كيف يعيش الانسان في بلد انهارت أخلاقه ؟

يستطيع الإنسان أن يتعايش في أي مجتمع فيه بعض النقص الغذائي ، الإقتصادي، الترفيهي ... إلخ
إلا انعدام الأخلاق !
وقتها يسود اللئام و السـفلة، و تذهب الأعراف و القوانين و الخير ، و يتحول كل شيء إلى غابة ، و بهذا تصبح الحياة الكريمة شبه مستحيلة !

Refined architectural practices.

In the second world war, many European countries who return their countries, started refining their building (new architectural styles) but keeping old structures .Kwa Dwai I have been asking questions to our lecturers at the University of Juba about the role of South Sudan architect Association, but they replied that South Sudan since it independent from Sudan and has not invested in such engineering fields. Until now there is no Board governing architects of south Sudan to create architectural styles of south Sudan, all we have in south Sudan is a bunch of architectural styles from different countries and some of their buildings are not even matching the context of south Sudan, meaning that they just transport their building way from their country to south sudan.

We have building materials but government is not paying attention to them . How come we buy cement from Uganda, Kenya and Sudan and we have in some hill rocks in the greater Equatoria region that could be made to be cement.

We have in the Upper Nile region swampy lands always wet, the Ethiopian bambooo could be planted in such areas.
