Greetings, I’m Salma Raafat, the founder of Poetry Comes to Light. I’m a 21-year-old wannabe poet, presenter, and friend to the hearts of many.

My story goes back to when I was 10 years old, when I first wanted to inspire. How? I didn’t know. But I was 11 when I held a pen and wrote about it.

I grew up wanting one thing; inspiring people to be themselves. Sounds simple, but imagine succeeding while holding onto every bit of yourself? The self that doubts, that questions, that stops you in the middle of your journey to ask if you’re worthy.

5 days before turning 19, Poetry Comes to Light had its first encounter with tearful eyes, fingers snapping to moving lines, and ear to ear smiles.

And here we are, bringing poetry, that is a “dying art” as a dear friend referred to, to life for three consecutive years.

I aspire for Poetry Comes to Light to be everyone’s safe haven, a golden chance for everyone in Alexandria to share their talents and words with art enthusiasts.

And finally, my goal is to be transparent enough for everyone to see that as a human being we all have our moments of doubt, all we need to do is accept them and keep going regardless. I want to be a near example to all my friends who dream big and watch them grow to fit their dreams, an example that is inspiring for its imperfection.
