✨Today, we close a chapter that spans more than four decades.✨

After more than 45 years with the Estonian National Theater Vanemuine ballet, Jelena Karpova begins a new journey.👋👏

Since joining the theatre in 1980 as a ballet soloist, Jelena has dedicated her life to dance and to the people who make it possible. As a performer, repetiteur, teacher, choreographer colleague and mentor, she has left an immeasurable mark on Estonian National Theater Vanemuine Ballet and on generations of dancers who have had the privilege of learning from her. She is someone whose presence shaped the studio, the stage, and the people around her.

Her knowledge, precision, unwavering dedication, and deep love for the art form have guided countless rehearsals, performances, premieres, and young artists finding their place in the studio and on stage. A ballet career is measured not only in performances and premieres, but also in the countless hours behind the scenes: morning classes, rehearsals, corrections, encouragement, dedication, and care. "Lena" has shared all of these with generations of dancers, helping transform movement into art and passing on her knowledge with generosity and passion. 💪☀️

Jelena has been part of our history, helping shape its present while quietly influencing its future through every dancer she inspired and every production she touched. ✨

Today was her last day with us, but her legacy will continue to live in our studios, on our stage, and in the hearts of those who have shared this journey with her.🫶

Thank you, Lena, for your artistry, your wisdom, your patience, and your devotion.✨👏
You will always be part of the Estonian National Theater Vanemuine Ballet family. ❤️

✨ CONGRATULATIONS ✨

Yesterday was truly something special
New Flow was not only a performance, it was a space filled with creativity, trust, passion, and the courage to create and share something personal.

It was beautiful to see what every choreographer and dancer brought to the stage: so many different worlds, energies, emotions, and ideas coming together in one evening. The dedication, hard work, and artistry of everyone involved was inspiring, and every single person should feel proud of what they created, or danced.

But a show like this is never made only by the people under the lights.

A huge thank you to everyone working behind the stage: the lighting crew, sound crew, stage managers, costume department, makeup and hair artists, technicians, and all the people who helped make this evening possible. Your work, care, and support allowed all of these creations to come alive.

And most importantly : thank you for the beautiful energy shared between everyone throughout this project. That is what made New Flow truly unforgettable ! 🤩

✨NEW FLOW✨

➡️ Gustavo Pedro and "La Follia"

Originally from Brazil, Gustavo brings to Vanemuine an explosive stage energy shaped by both classical training and a deep love for theatrical movement.

As a performer, Gustavo is known for his powerful presence, musicality, and ability to fill the stage with life, always carried by rhythm, emotion, and connection with the ensemble around him.

For New Flow on May 16th & 17th at the Harbour Theatre (Tartu), he presents "La Follia" : a vibrant creation for 12 dancers inspired by the chaos, excitement, and irresistible energy of a celebration.

Between laughter, movement, music, and moments of wild abandon, the piece transforms the stage into a living party where bodies collide, emotions rise, and the line between order and madness slowly disappears.

Dynamic, festive, and overflowing with life, "La Follia" celebrates the joy of being together, dancing, losing control, and fully living in the moment ✨

Because sometimes a little madness is exactly what brings us alive

Music : "Sonata 'La Follia' Op. 1 n. 12 RV 63", Vivaldi

✨NEW FLOW✨

➡️ William Halton and "Lineage"

Originally from the UK, William brings a powerful physicality shaped by both classical training and contemporary exploration.

As a dancer, William is drawn to movement that feels grounded, human, and instinctive, where emotion lives not only in expression, but in the body itself : in weight, rhythm, breath, and connection between dancers.

For New Flow on May 16th & 17th at the Harbour Theatre (Tartu), he presents Lineage : a contemporary creation exploring the invisible threads that connect people across generations, memories, and shared experiences.

Through dynamic group movement, fluid partnering, and striking stage imagery, the piece reflects on what we inherit from one another: gestures, emotions, histories, and the traces people leave behind.

Raw yet poetic, Lineage moves between strength and vulnerability, creating a world where bodies seem to carry both the past and the present at once.

Because even when we move forward, something of those before us continues to move within us ✨

Music : Revenant Theme/Arriving at Fort Kiowa, Ryuichi Sakamoto

✨NEW FLOW✨

➡️Elena Troisfontaines and "A geometry of us"

Originally from Belgium, Elena brings to Vanemuine a movement quality shaped by both classical precision and contemporary curiosity.

As a dancer, Elena is drawn to connection between bodies, space, rhythm, and emotion. Her work explores how movement can create invisible structures between people, transforming simple gestures into something almost architectural.

For New Flow on May 16th & 17th at the Harbour Theatre (Tartu), she presents "A Geometry of Us", a creation for eight dancers: four women and four men.

Through duets, quartets, and shifting group formations, the piece explores the endless geometries the body can create alone and together. Lines intersect, bodies mirror one another, patterns appear and disappear, constantly reshaping the space around them.
"A Geometry of Us" invites the audience to see dance not only as emotion, but also as form, balance, and human connection in motion ✨

Because every relationship creates its own geometry.

Music : Chronos, Kirill Richter

✨NEW FLOW✨

➡️ Spike Frobisher and "After Hours"

Originally from the UK, Spike brings to Vanemuine a vibrant stage energy shaped by a love for both classical performance and theatrical entertainment.

Known for his charisma, musicality, and dynamic presence, Spike embraces dance not only as technique but as joy, rhythm, and connection with the audience.

For New Flow on May 16th & 17th at the Harbour Theatre (Tartu), he presents "After Hours" : a sparkling, jazz-inspired piece filled with glitter, playful energy, and irresistible music.

Stepping into a world somewhere between cabaret, musical theatre, and dance party fantasy, the dancers celebrate the freedom that appears when the formal performance ends and the night truly begins.

Because sometimes dance is simply about letting go and enjoying the moment.

Music : Is it a Crime, Sade

✨NEW FLOW✨

➡️Ilona Voloshko and "Horsemen of the Apocalypse"

Originally from Ukraine, Ilona brings a deeply expressive stage presence shaped by both classical discipline and emotional intensity.

Throughout her artistic journey and life outside ballet, Ilona has been drawn to movement that goes beyond aesthetics, dance that questions, confronts, and speaks about the human condition.

For New Flow on May 16th & 17th at the Harbour Theatre (Tartu), she presents her choreographic creation "Horsemen of the Apocalypse".

Performed by four dancers, the piece is inspired by the symbolic figures of war, death, hunger, and conquest. Each embodied through a distinct physical and emotional language.

Dark, powerful, and atmospheric, the work explores the tension between destruction and humanity, reminding us how fragile the world can become when fear and violence take control.

Through sharp contrasts, raw movement, and haunting imagery, Ilona invites the audience into a universe where mythology suddenly feels painfully close to reality.

✨NEW FLOW✨

➡️Hodaka Maruyama and "Dance with..."

Originally from Japan, Hodaka brings warmth and sensitivity to the stage.

For New Flow on May 16th & 17th at the Harbour Theatre (Tartu), Hodaka presents his choreographic creation "Dance with…" : a heartfelt trio inspired by friendship, connection, and the quiet joy of simply sharing moments together.

Through playful movement, lyrical energy, and human closeness, this piece, tender, honest, and full of light celebrates the people who walk beside us through life ✨

Because sometimes friendship is its own kind of dance.

✨NEW FLOW✨

➡️ Maria Engle with "Between"

Originally trained in Germany before continuing her artistic journey abroad, Maria has become part of the new generation of dancers shaping the identity of the company where classical technique meets contemporary expression.

For New Flow on May 16th & 17th at the Harbour Theatre (Tartu), Maria steps into choreography with her new pas de deux, "Between".

Dancing the piece herself alongside Alexander Drew, she explores the fragile space between two people, between closeness and distance, silence and emotion, presence and absence.

With her refined movement quality and deeply musical approach, Maria creates a work that feels intimate, honest, and quietly powerful.
