Mannhaf: an ocean of humans by Áki Sebastian Frostason with Joel Väli is a sculpture and video project that draws attention to the current state of the fishing industry in Iceland and across the globe 🐟🦭 Our oceans are not only full of cotton swabs and straws (however, the number of these has decreased) but also nets, buoys, strings and other waste from the fishing industry - that is seen as a normal and even charming part of the Icelandic coastal environment 🌿
This sculpture, "a ghost" of fishing nets, is located next to the seaside in the centre of Akureyri, Iceland. This is "a ghost" returning from its wet grave, coming back to hunt the humans who summoned its devious existence...🐋
