Estonian Song and Dance Celebration

Estonian Song and Dance Celebration Welcome to Estonian Song and Dance Celebration Facebook fan page! Each and every one of us has a special relationship with our fatherland.

The next celebration – XXVII Song Celebration and the XX Dance Celebration „My Fatherland is My Love“ will be held on 4–7 July 2019. The XXVII Song Celebration and the XX Dance Celebration „My Fatherland is My Love“ will be held on 4–7 July 2019. The main idea of the XXVII Song Celebration and the XX Dance Celebration is „My Fatherland is My Love.“ These words have a personal meaning for each and

every one of us. Used by the poet Lydia Koidula they have now become a timeless anthem to the love of the fatherland which has brought people together in hard times to care for their land and continually renew it. Love and fatherland are such broad and multi-layered concepts that they only find substance through personal devotion and expression. The XXVII Song Celebration and the XX Dance Celebration “My Fatherland is My Love“ will take place at the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds and the Kalevi Stadium from Thursday until Sunday, 4–7 July 2019. On Thursday and Friday folk dancers will give a total of three performances at Kalevi Stadium and folk music concerts will be held. Saturday is devoted to the procession, followed by the first concert of the Song Celebration. On Sunday the second concert of the Song Celebration will take place. With the XXVII Song Celebration and the XX Dance Celebration we will mark two great jubilees: in 2019, it will be 150 years since the birth of the song festival and 85 years since the first dance celebration. The Head Conductor of the XXVII Song Celebration is Peeter Perens; the Head Choreographer of the XX Dance Celebration is Vaike Rajaste, and Juhan Uppin leads the folk musicians. If you have any questions about the registration process, please send an e-mail to the program editor, Vaike Rajaste. [email protected]

Today, Arvo Pärt, one of the greatest figures of Estonian music, celebrates his 90th birthday. 💐

In 2019, during the jubilee year of the Song and Dance Festival, Arvo Pärt Centre shared the maestro’s thoughts about the Song Festival:

“The Song Festival is a small flame of love that warms all our hearts here in the northern chill. Let us keep it sacred! Let us make sure it never goes out! It is the treasure of each of us, it is the treasure of Estonia.”

Warmest congratulations on the special day, maestro! 🙌

"As a result, being present at the Song Festival Grounds is analogous to being invited into a space which is open to anyone yet hasn’t sprung to mind as accessible. The music survived and so, it is being confirmed, will Estonia."

The branch of the fast-food chain Hesburger in downtown Tallinn shopping centre Solaris is busy. Nothing unusual as it’s located by the entrance to a multi-screen cinema. Double cheeseburgers and fries are going over the counter. Less typically, two-thirds of the people here are wearing traditiona...
