It's getting uglier and uglier. In 2012, I visited the Dominican Republic for the first time. Everything was different from Europe and, of course, interesting. I met Haitians living in the country, laughing and dancing, much like the Dominicans. In the 13 years I've lived in Haiti, the situation has changed dramatically. It's the year 2025, and Haitians are being persecuted in the country with the intention of being deported back to Haiti. They are Haitians without papers, but that doesn't always make a difference. The ease of life has turned into bitterness. Haitian families with children once born in the country, who speak and feel like Dominicans, fear deportation to disaster. The Dominican Republic is losing its charm which is getting more and more replaced by nationalism. This video tell a story what is going on in the country.

Easter gifts ...
What happened?
A 17-year-old teenager was arrested at his parents' home.
Why?
Because an immigration officer didn't think his age was right. He was deemed older, which justified the officer arresting him and putting him on a truck to be deported to Haiti. His parents are Haitians with legal documents and work in the Dominican Republic.
This anxious teenager, born in the Dominican Republic and never having been to Haiti, was about to be torn from his family and eventually deported.
He was initially taken to a detention center in Santo Domingo. His mother couldn't stay home and spent day and night outside the prison.
