Last night we went to Mon Repos beach (Bundaberg) to watch the little hatchlings of Loggerhead sea turtles make their way out of the nest and into the sea. It was a very joyous event, wonderful to witness. They are so small and so cute. But it was also with dread for their future, only 1 in 1000 make it back to the beach as a mature adult to lay their eggs. Natural predators, pollution, human interference, climate change, eating PLASTIC BAGS AND FISHING LINES - all of this claims most of them. We can all help make a difference: Pick up plastic when you go for a beach walk and use your own bags when shopping. And when are Coles and Woolworths going to take responsibility for their plastic bags??! Charge $ for plastic bags please!
