Søndag den 17. maj 2026 kan du komme med arkitekt og museumsleder på byvandring. Temaet er “Københavns Vinduer”, og her kan du høre historien om udvalgte vinduer i centrum af hovedstaden.

Vi starter ved Designmuseum Danmark med vinduer i rokokostil og slutter med Nationalbankens modernistiske vinduer.

Her bliver du guided gennem en oplevelsesrig tidstunnel med historiske rum og en magasinvæg med mere end 60 originale vinduer. Derudover rummer udstillingen også temafortællinger om vinduet i arkitekturen, vinduets mekanismer og vinduets materialer.

Der er fri entré, og det foregår på VILLUM Window Collection, Maskinvej 4, 2860 Søborg.

Iconic Windows in Photography: Dear Stranger

In Dear Stranger (Between Exhibitionism and Surveillance) (1998–2000), Japanese photographer Shizuka Yokomizo invited strangers to stand in the light of their ground-floor windows at a specific time, knowing they were being photographed from the street. The window becomes both a frame and a boundary — connecting private interiors with the public gaze.

This image was highlighted by our podcast guests in Iconic Windows in the Arts — a podcast series exploring the role of windows across different art forms — and was discussed specifically by and in the episode dedicated to photography.

Ikoniske vinduer i fotokunsten: I Dear Stranger (Between Exhibitionism and Surveillance) (1998–2000) inviterede den japanske fotograf Shizuka Yokomizo fremmede mennesker til at stå foran deres vinduer i gadeplan på et fastsat tidspunkt – velvidende at de blev fotograferet fra gaden. Vinduet bliver både en ramme og en grænse, der forbinder det private rum med det offentlige blik.

Iconic Windows: The Cupola - A Window that frames the whole Planet ‍👩‍🚀

As space exploration once again captures global attention through the Artemis II mission.

The Cupola is the observatory module of the@iss International Space Station, built by the European Space Agency. Named after the Italian word for “dome”, it is a small architectural structure with a big task: to enable observation, orientation and connection. With its seven specially engineered windows, the Cupola allows astronauts to observe Earth, space and visiting spacecraft.

Seen from space, the window becomes more than a technical element: it is a mediator between human experience, architecture and the vastness beyond.

I takt med at rumforskningen igen får global opmærksomhed som missionen Artemis II, minder Cupolaen her os om, at uanset hvor mennesker bevæger sig hen, tager vi vinduer med os.

The Cupola er observationsmodulet på Den Internationale Rumstation (ISS), bygget af den Europæiske Rumorganisation (ESA). Navnet stammer fra det italienske ord for “kuppel” – og modulet er en lille arkitektonisk struktur med en stor opgave: at muliggøre observation, orientering og forbindelse. Med sine syv specialudviklede vinduer giver Cupolaen astronauter mulighed for at observere Jorden, rummet og besøgende rumfartøjer.

Sebastian Aristotelis fra SAGA Space Architects fremhæver Cupolaen som et ikonisk vindue i VILLUM Window Collections podcast "Iconic Windows in the Arts".

✨Sainte-Chapelle in Paris is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture – and an unique example of how windows can shape the entire spatial experience.

Here, masonry is reduced to a minimum to make room for vast stained-glass panels that almost completely enclose the space. Light is filtered through the glass and becomes an architectural material in its own right: coloured, dynamic, and constantly changing.

Sainte-Chapelle is a powerful reminder that windows do not merely admit light – they can create architecture.

Sainte-Chapelle katedralen i Paris er et hovedværk i den gotiske arkitektur – og et enestående eksempel på, hvordan vinduer kan blive afgørende for oplevelsen af hele rummet.

Murværket reduceret til et minimum for at give plads til enorme glasmosaikker der omslutter rummet. Lyset filtreres gennem glasset og bliver selv et arkitektonisk materiale: farvet, bevægeligt og konstant foranderligt.
