Deep in the woods in Devon, there are 5 small teardrop-shaped wooden cabins you can spend the night in.
uk , who runs the site, built them using the geometry we developed for the transparent Droplet, of which we’ve made quite a few in collaboration with
But John has CNC milled them from 6mm marine plywood, instead of polycarbonate.
The shell itself, which makes up the ceiling and walls, is made from just 40 sheets of 6mm plywood.
It may sound like a lot, but it’s surprisingly little material to create a 25m2 space that can withstand both snow and wind loads.
They are mounted on screw foundations so they don’t damage the roots in the ground and can easily be removed again.
It’s great to see the geometry used in this way and with an interior you want to snuggle up in.
