Meet the composer: G. P. Telemann!

Did you know: Telemann lost his wife to a seductive Danish soldier. She left him with a huge debt and all their children. Aside from this tragic story, KLAR!festival hosts the leading Telemann performer of Scandinavia. Do not miss your opportunity to listen to Telemann’s sonatina i A minor for recorder and basso continuo.

Georg Philipp Telemann (1681–1767) was a German Baroque composer, born in Magdeburg. Self-taught in music, he studied law at the University of Leipzig. The most prolific composer of his era, he was a contemporary of Johann Sebastian Bach and a life-long friend of Georg Friedrich Händel. While in the present day Bach is generally thought of as the greater composer, Telemann was more widely renowned for his musical abilities during his lifetime. He held a series of important musical positions, culminating in that of music director of the five largest churches in Hamburg, from 1720 until his death in 1767. He was succeeded by his godson Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach.

Im Jahr 2024 wird das KLAR!-Festival auf Schloss Ledreborg in Dänemark stattfinden und die international gefeierte österreichische Solistin Olivia De Prato, Musik von einigen der wichtigsten zeitgenössischen österreichischen Komponisten, die gefeierten Barockspezialisten Dan Laurin und Anna Paradiso sowie die Ergebnisse eines professionellen Workshops mit jungen Musiker:innen zur Musik von Pauline Oliveros präsentieren.
KLAR! wird von dem österreichischen Dirigenten und Komponisten Kai Johannes Polzhofer und der dänischen Blockflötensolistin Clara Goldberg Ravn kuratiert.

KLAR!festival has a clear mission: presenting some of the best soloists and music from Austria and Scandinavia to a wide audience. Therefore KLAR!festival stands for exchange between music scenes, people and cultures. In 2024 KLAR!festival takes place at Ledreborg Castle in Denmark and invites internationally awarded Austrian soloist Olivia De Prato, presenting music by some of the most important Austrian composers of today, the acclaimed baroque specialists Dan Laurin and Anna Paradiso, as well results from a professional workshop with young musicians on the music of Pauline Oliveros.
KLAR! is curated by the Austrian conductor and composer Kai Johannes Polzhofer and Danish recorder soloist Clara Goldberg Ravn.

Ever heard of Johan Helmich Roman? He is until now one of the most important Swedish composers, who not only worked alongside G.F. Handel, but became an influential music theorist. Most of his work compositions are lost, but you will here at KLAR!festival hear his Flute Sonata no. 6.

Johan Helmich Roman was born in 1694 in Stockholm. As chief conductor of the Royal Court Orchestra, composer, musician and teacher, Roman laid the ground for an increasingly rich music scene in the 18th century in Sweden. He was also the first Swedish composer to attain international status, and had a prolific musical output covering most of the genres of his time, instrumental and vocal.
