I was looking through older works of mine from before I started painting with oils and got sucked into a spiral of nostalgia. I used to paint a lot more detailed, when I made my smaller watercolor works, which was lost when transitioning to oil paint.
I’ve revitalized this process and allowed myself to dive deeper into my mind to recognize my vision. Honestly this is the most fun I’ve had with oil paints as of yet.
There’s lots of hidden layers or ‘happy accidents’ in this painting. I’m not sure when it will be done, as the process is something else entirely. Lots and lots of experimentation and play with tools and mediums of all sorts 🦋

This is an image that describes the feeling of being trapped in one’s self, full of melancholy, without a way to release it to the world around them. The German word ‘weltschmerz’ (world-pain) came to mind while painting this, which describes a deep sadness with the world and how all its cruelty and inequalities has affected one’s mind.

What’s on the easel at the moment 👩‍🎨

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I’ve always wanted to convey strong yet somewhat intangible emotions in my art. These emotions cannot be explained in words. The best I got it ‘floating through space’ or ‘the search for something else’. Extremely vague, I know.
The core of this message has not changed but the outlet has changed immensely since I decided to start oil painting, since I began experimenting a lot. What I’m doing right now is way less detailed than I’m used to, kind of going with the ‘less is more’ principle and trying to convey these emotions in their absolute rawest of forms, playing more with color theory than I’ve been used to and I’m actually enjoying it a lot.
