Cecilie Waagner Falkenstrøm and her team are on a residency visit at Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at MSU this week.

The residency is part of the preparation for our upcoming solo exhibition at the museum, opening on 30 January 2026.
The exhibition will be a large-scale interactive installation that confronts the viewer with questions about algorithms.

Cecilie explains:

“Our project examines data and engages in conversations with the students about the role of AI, and how algorithms on social media shape our public personas and influence our private thoughts and conscience. The purpose is to open a broader conversation about AI’s impact on well-being, identity, and community.”

The Eli and Edythe Broad Museum is located at Michigan State University in the US and is known for its award-winning architecture by Zaha Hadid. The institution is dedicated to exploring contemporary international culture through art and is an integral part of MSU’s educational and cultural mission.

Cecilie will develop the concept for the exhibition in collaboration with students at the university during her residency, and the project stems from the university’s ambition to support the well-being of its students.

Can we use artificial intelligence to understand and restore the nature we have destroyed? Can new technology lead us back to something we have lost – a loss that can perhaps be traced all the way back to the fall in the Garden of Paradise?

This is the core of PARADISE, a groundbreaking theatre performance that premieres at Aveny-T on 5 September 2025. Created by the Reumert and Ars Electronica Award-winning artists behind the successful performance SKY66EN, Cecilie Waagner Falkenstrøm, Carl Emil Carlsen and Mikael Fock, PARADISE The audience is part of a technopoetic expedition where artificial intelligence (AI), scientists and living plants are fused in a digital 3D universe.

Cecilie Waagner Falkenstrøm has been invited as a guest artist to lead a workshop on June 27th at Hertz Lab, a monthly public program hosted by ZKM - Zentrum für Kunst und Medien Karlsruhe.

In the workshop Cecilie will be taking the point of departure in her work 'The Caring Machine', an artwork imagining a future where artificial intelligences accompany us in our most intimate and vulnerable moments - when we are in our deathbed about to leave this world, and what it means when care work is shared with, or perhaps overtaken by, technology.

Also presented in the workshop are 'Algorithmic Panopticon', and 'An Algorithmic Gaze II', works raising important questions about the nature of emotional relationships between humans and machines.
