“You should always read your heroes’ heroes.”

Ben Lerner’s advice to young writers begins with the writers they already admire. Find out whom those writers read and loved, he says, and use those constellations to shape your own reading rather than adhering to an established canon.

Ben Lerner (born 1979) is an American poet, novelist, essayist, and critic. He teaches creative writing at Brooklyn College, where he is a Distinguished Professor of English.

Thank you.

The last conversation has ended and Sunday is drawing to a close. With that, we round off Louisiana Literature 2026 🦋

For four wonderful days, the museum and park have been full of writers and readers, conversations and performances, books passed across signing tables, chance encounters, attentive silences and so much laughter.

Thank you to every author, artist, interviewer and musician who joined us. Thank you to every staff member who helped make the festival possible.

And finally, thank you to every single one of YOU — who listened, asked questions, read, stayed out late in the Lake Garden, queued for a signature, picnicked in the park between events or simply came and spent these days with us. Thank you for making these four days unforgettable.

The festival is over, and we are tired, happy and immensely grateful 🙏

See you next year.

Højdepunkter fra lørdag ✨

Authors meeting authors, laughter on and off stage, rain intermezzos in the park, and plenty more moments to remember. Thank you for a wonderful Saturday at Louisiana Literature.

Good morning and welcome to the final day of Louisiana Literature 2026! We are excited to see you again in a few hours. Today, the Concert Hall opens at 12.30 with David Szalay and Nelio Biedermann in conversation. Later, you can experience Tanya Tagaq on the Villa Stage, Siri Hustvedt and Georgi Gospodinov in conversation on the Park Stage, and many more 🦋

We expect many people today, and we kindly ask you to arrive in good time for the events you want to see. Thank you for respecting each other and our staff, and helping us to create an amazing and unforgettable festival. See you very soon for a final day of inspiring conversations, unique performances, and sharing our love of literature 💙
