Presenting the next exhibition at platform BUNKER:

Ninna Steen - Nature's Q***r Performativity on September 18-27

Ninna Steen (DK) is an interdisciplinary artist working at the intersection of performance, installation, visual art and technology. Using new technologies, she builds alternative worlds, choreographs humanoid robots and transforms iconic buildings.

Nature's Q***r Performativity is a site-specific installation that uses architectural video mapping to transform platform BUNKER into an animated, living, breathing hemisphere, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in a contemplative encounter with the unknown.

Exploring the performativity of nature, the installation merges visual art, video mapping technology, philosophy, and architecture through an associative practice. platform BUNKER is transformed into a fluctuating universe that physically and mentally evolves around the visitors, where strange and weird aspects of existence flow, blend, and transform. Phenomena across scales are connected through an analogy-creating process, linking large-scale cosmic phenomena with subatomic ghost particles and hylozoic considerations about the nature of reality.
The installation encourages an embrace of the strange, uncanny, and q***r as essential aspects of existence, placing visitors in an intimate sensory chamber of wonder, where dead stars haunt, black holes dance, and quantum particles form pairs.

The collaborative practice of Nanna Elvin Hansen and Eliza Bożek (moltamole) is rooted in field recording and collective listening as methods for attending to landscapes, watery bodies and the political conditions that shape them. Together they have developed sonic research into the extractive landscape of the quartzite quarry at the Giemaš mountain in Sápmi, Norway - resulting in a radio live-stream, a vinyl release and the audio-visual installation Waters at Quarry, Waters that Carry.

The audio-visual installation Waters at Quarry, Waters that Carry explores the politicisation of the underground from the perspective of water. With the rising need for minerals for new technologies, including green technologies such as solar panels and wind turbines, demand is ever-increasing, and the subterranean is becoming increasingly politicised. Extractivism not only creates scars in the landscape by wresting minerals from the underground but also proliferates zones of dispute, sacrifice, and transformation.
Waterways play a central role in the extraction of minerals, as they function as infrastructure for transportation and the supply of power around mining sites.

On August 9, we hosted a screening of Groundings - a film by Nanna Elvin Hansen with field recordings by Eliza Bozek, along with a panel discussion with the artists.

The event was a part of the exhibition Waters at Quarry, Waters that Carry - an audio-visual installation and collaboration between Nanna and Eliza.

Missed the exhibition? We have an extra opening day on Sunday September 6 at 10-16. The event is free as always.

Thank you to everyone who came yesterday to the opening of Waters at Quarry, Waters that Carry by Eliza Bozek and Nanna Elvin Hansen!

The exhibition is open today and tomorrow and next weekend from Friday to Sunday at 15-18.

Tomorrow we are also hosting an artist talk and a screening of the film Groundings (2024) by Nanna Elvin Hansen, featuring field recordings by Eliza Bozek.

Groundings looks into the extraction of the mineral quartzite at the Giemaš mountain in the Sápmi region of northern Norway used for new remote sensing technology. The quartzite becomes a point of departure for a forensic and poetic journey, considering how this stone can bear witness to geopolitical exploitation. The film thus asks who—human or non-human—gets to pose political demands and control a landscape?
