Artist bio:
Lydia Östberg DiakitĂ© is an artist whose practice explores emotional, political and fictional landscapes through choreography, performance, video, text, and installation. Working with intuitive knowledge and poetic association, her work moves through layered gestures, fragmented narratives and sampled elements to question and explore how experiences live in and through the body. Diakité’s ongoing practice centers on the body’s capacity to hold, transform, and resist, opening up spaces between memory, representation, and existing.

Presenting the first artists of EVES #8

Filled Chocolates or Dissipating Dances
by Beck Heiberg & Sigrid Stigsdatter

For this Eves Beck and Sigrid will show a series of encounters shared between them and their different practices and interests at the moment. Like a box of filled chocolates they will open up different dances and written material, some to be expected and others a total surprise.
“We wanted to take this opportunity to learn something from each other and to dig into the world and poetics of the other. This sharing is the result of two friends meeting in the studio with great curiosity, many questions and little time”

Artist Bios:

Beck Heiberg is a choreographer and performer based between Copenhagen and Berlin. He has a BA in Theatre and Performance Studies from Copenhagen University and is furthermore educated at Juste Debout School in Paris, France and Hotstepper Studio in Copenhagen, Denmark. Beck is investigating q***r- and transpolitical aesthetics as both an explicit and implicit part of his praxis. He works in a broad field of theatre and performance, but his own original work derives from building concepts up around movement and is often related to personal experiences.

Sigrid Stigsdatter is a choreographer, performer, and vocalist based in Copenhagen and working internationally. She works through body, voice, text and sound with dance as the center piece engaging with it as a poetic, sensual and addictive matter through which we can understand cultural identity, power structures, history, and social behaviors. She interrogates dramaturgy as non-linear storytelling, seeking to create meaning without making sense and she approaches the theater space as both punk and magic.
Sigrid holds a BA in Choreography from SNDO, Amsterdam and an MFA in Choreography from DDSKS, Copenhagen. She is a member of whirlpool bath (Amsterdam) and Dance Cooperative (Copenhagen), two artist-run initiatives working for and with the dance community.

out in the dark
by Oriane Paras, performed by Aline Combe

the work explores the phenomenon of absence. Absence as the experience of lacking something, or someone. Absence as the experience of missing something, or someone. Absence as a feeling of disappearance.
the audience will enter a dark room, together we will meet the safety of darkness, interrupted by moments of brightness.

What is happening if I don’t see you? What is happening if I don’t see you? What is happening if I don’t see you? What is happening if I don’t see? What is happening if I don’t? What is happening if? What is happening? What?

Artist bios:
International performer and choreographer, Oriane studied dance and choreography between France, Spain and Denmark. They worked in several projects and collaborations around Europe and Latin America.
They care about collaborative work, always involving different perspectives into the work to question and develop it. Oriane’s work is driven by their personal desires and values, constantly questioning the bodies in society, the norms, our individual choices and needs.

Aline Combe grew up between clashing ways of thinking. She first turned to philosophy to try to make sense of it, then to dance, in order to think and question with her body. She tries not to take things for granted. It’s a bit noble, a bit hopeless.
In 2024, she completed an MFA in Dance and Participation from the Danish National School of Performing Arts (DDSKS). As a performer, she is drawn to works that allow for tension, ambiguity, and embodied thinking, where presence is as much about listening as it is about doing.

horizontal choreographies
By Ar Utke Ács

horizontal choreographies comes from a bedridden, q***r body. I am investigating how to create a dance performance with chronic illness during flare-ups and fatigue, through departing from the horizontal position. Through the poetics of sickness, the performance dives into the friction between desire and dissociation to unfold a body on the verge of the corporeal and imaginary. For the past two years I have been rewriting and presenting this ongoing sketch in order to ask: how can we dance on the premises of a body that is undying ongoingly?

access for the performance: the audience is invited to lay down during the performance or find another position to rest. no strong lights, loud sound or fragrance will be used. there is a link with the text for people with hearing impairments.

bio:
Ar Utke Ács is an artist working with contemporary dance and choreography with focus on the poetics and politics of the body in the seams of performance, dramaturgy, text, installation, social choreographies and the imaginary. In particular, they are busy with counter-hegemonic strategies and organising from q***r and crip perspectives. They hold a BA in Dance Performance from Stockholm University of the Arts and has presented their work in co-production with organisations such as Dansehallerne, MDT (SE), BIT Teatergarasjen (NO) and Baltic Circle (FI).

Presenting the first artists of EVES #7
car piece
by Mikka Mallow & Marcos Nacar

In our research for car piece we approach an object saturated by symbolic imaginaries, while also examining it in its state as pure matter. Through a succession of accidents and intentional actions, three bodies immerse themselves in a play of forces, distances, directions and affects. By tracing paths between materiality and symbolism, we attend to the car both in the density of its potential meanings and the process of its hollowing.

In an oscillation that displaces its ontology while retaining it, multiple modes of perception and meaning-making unfold — what emerges when we meet this object not just as a car, but as a shifting constellation of weight, memory, and motion?

By Marcos Nacar, Mikka Mallow & Lizzi’s Car (that once belonged to Mikka’s late grandmother)

Date: 25th of September at Valby Kulturhus 19:00

Artist bios:

Mikka Mallow is a performing artist with a background in sociology and dance, working at the intersection of movement, community, and curation. He is a member of the artist-driven studio and platform Dance Cooperative, and curates the stage program for UbĂ„den at BĂ„dteatret. His artistic work explores somatic practices and strategies that cultivate new perceptual habits and intimacies — ways of relating to the material world, its emergent liveliness and layered memories.

Marcos Nacar is a Catalan performance and video artist, and independent researcher based in Berlin, and currently studying the masters program New performative practices in Stockholm. Drawing on autofiction, Nacar explores dance and performance as documentary media, creating scenarios where fact and fiction intersect. He examines our species’ relationship with the landscape and the shifting states lying between presence and absence. He works mainly with movement and video, using poetry and text as a support to contextualize and concretize the meaning of his work. With a background in law and philosophy, he departs from theoretical material and puts it into motion as a way to rediscover and unveil ideas through embodied experience.

Working within Work - Day 4

On the final day, Hanne and Lea, representing Soul Sessions, hosted a class introducing steps from the legacy of house and wacking. It was importantly for us to find moments to dance together and meeting in our crafts, when focusing on self-organization within the Nordic independent dance field.

After moving together, we got a taste the project Danish Dance Stories, where we were introduced to alternative ways of storytelling and archiving dance stories and history, facilitated by Stine from and Andrea Deres.

In the afternoon, we synthesized and reflected over all the proposals from the week, what knowledge and resources we can share with each other and which wishes we have for the future of the Working within Work network.

Working within Work is facilitated by .cooperative in collaboration with and is generously supported by and
