THIS IS HOW IT ALL STARTED 🩷
Back in 2016, we came together to create a special day dedicated to the kids of Vila Yolanda II - São Paulo, Brazil 🇧🇷
Free food, haircuts, graffiti, breaking, poetry, games, face painting, little gifts and lots of love. Everything is always free & about the kids!
But it didn’t stop there.
That first event grew into year-round community activities – we brought cinema to the kids, community meals, cleaning and improving playgrounds, creating safer and more accessible spaces for children and much more.
Since then, Children’s Day has become a yearly tradition every October. Through Hotstepper, Catatau and Karen have continued supporting the initiative financially, through organising and in every way possible.
BUT THIS STORY IS ALSO PERSONAL.
Vila Yolanda II is Catatau’s quebrada – the neighbourhood where he grew up, his roots, his home 🏠
For Vila Yolanda II and the kids, Catatau is a role model. Someone who came from the same streets, found his path through Hip Hop and never forgot where he came from.
Hip Hop helped save his life. Now he uses it to give back and create opportunities for his quebrada & also the next generation.
And that’s what this has always been about.
Not just one special day, but showing the kids that they matter, that their community matters and that possibilities exist beyond the circumstances they grow up in.
This is where it all began. And the story continues. 🇧🇷

On Sunday, October 25th, we’re bringing our community together at Hotstepper in Copenhagen to raise funds for this year’s Children’s Day in Vila Yolanda II.
Come dance, join the breaking workshop, enjoy the free practice with live DJ or simply come by to support the cause!
