The motivation to make game girl workshops with the target group from the Middle Eastern minorities started at a talk at Nordic Game Conference 2010, where the subject was “The emerging Arabic market”. We were a bit puzzled because – what roles and interests would the women and girls have in this development? The storytelling in most of the computer games developed are told from a Western, male pe

rspective. To challenge this tendency, we thought a good place to start, would be to motivate and inspire young teenage girls to game development – to show them that technology can be creative and fun. Andrea and Nevin contacted the Islamic Arabic Private School at Nørrebro, Copenhagen, where the pupils have cultural and ethnic roots in the Middle East. We made a game development workshop with 10 girls from 8th grade in 3 days. The two games that were developed during these 3 days where launched at Nordic Playday 2010 at libraries across Denmark and Norway.
