"Sometimes you need to be stupid, to do something completely wrong, just to find the right path. For me, this stupidity is an incredible asset—if you’re not stupid, you can’t invent anything new." Architect and designer Piero Lissoni on embracing childishness and making mistakes.

Spencer's Spa was conceived of by Ryan McCarthy as an antidote to the cold, sterile atmosphere typically associated with spa culture. “I love hearing the gentle creak of the original floorboards in an old house as someone moves down the hall. It reminds me that the place is full of life. Our spas take the same approach.”

Making the bed can have tangible psychological benefits—especially when the bedding feels elevated and intentional. Danish homeware brand Tekla Fabrics brings its signature style and ease to a new broderie anglaise bedding collection, reinterpreting traditional embroidered details with a more contemporary touch. The result favors texture over ornament—a subtle reminder that care can be a kind of design.

In 2019, professional soccer player Nicolaj Thomsen co-founded the menswear label Another Aspect. Now, he’s returning to the sport with his new role as creative lead of B.93, Copenhagen's century-old soccer club. "The idea is to push B.93 further in a hybrid direction: to treat the stadium as a cultural space as much as a sports venue. We’re thinking about art exhibitions, merchandise, collaborations with artists, and brand activations."

Saxophonist cktrl on how he rediscovered his passion: "I had a corporate job from 19 to 26, where they weren’t used to young people, let alone a young Black person from inner-city London. That’s what brought me back to my instruments. If I’d had a s**t week at work, I just played in the dark when I got home."

In her research, psychologist, professor and author of "Good Habits, Bad Habits," Wendy Wood has found that nearly half of our daily actions are driven not by intention, but by habits.

"It’s important to know which behaviors you want to be habitual—like exercising or recycling—and which you want to experience consciously, like having breakfast with your loved ones. Habits help you repeat basic tasks without effort, but you don’t want everything in life to be automatic. Awareness helps you find the balance."

Public bathing is a national pastime in Japan—one born out of necessity. In Edo, the city that became Tokyo, space was limited and hot water was expensive. So bathhouses, or sentō, became cultural hubs, places to congregate and chat.

And while many old neighborhood sentō continue to shut down, Jo Nagasaka and his firm Schemata Architects have recently designed three in an attempt to keep the bathhouse culture alive.

"Sentō can’t be too stylish. They need to be accepted by all people—it’s important that they don’t become the kind of place where grandparents feel they can’t relax. So, I suppose it needs a design similar to that of a cafeteria or a ramen shop."
