Meaningful Play: Ancient Board Games in Context is a course taught by PhD Fellow Jacob Schmidt-Madsen in the Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies (CCRS) at the University of Copenhagen in the spring semester of 2017. The course provides an overview of the history of board games from the earliest times until today. It focuses on the cultural meanings ascribed to board games as represen

tations of everything from everyday reality to cosmological systems. Teaching commences in week 5 and ends in week 20. Sessions are held on Tuesdays from 11-13 and on Thursdays from 8-10.
