This year, at UX Copenhagen, we will discuss climate change, consumerism, and waste🌎👀🌱
Therefore, we have taken it upon ourselves to tackle the challenge of reducing our energy usage on social media and promoting digital sustainability.
While posting on social media does consume energy, it also allows us to spread the word and promote good behaviors and practices that, in the long run, can lead to energy savings.
The solution to reducing energy consumption online doesn't always have to involve omitting visuals. The key to reducing the carbon footprint of digital properties lies in finding a balance between the number of visual assets used and how those assets are produced and managed.
We will do our best to use our social media channels consciously. To achieve this, we will be guided by the following goals:
1. Creating Intentional Content: We aim to create content that positively impacts. We want our posts to inspire, educate, and foster connections.
2. Optimizing and Compressing: We're committed to using accurate image formats and compressing them effectively. By posting in the right format and employing compression techniques, we aim to reduce our data consumption.
3. Minimizing Video Usage: We'll avoid unnecessary use of video formats. While videos have their place, we recognize that they're not always essential. We prioritize relevance in delivering content and minimizing the production of digital content.
