Cross-border collaboration in the arts is more needed than ever — yet access to funding for international collaboration continues to shrink.

In its latest policy paper, the Performing Arts Coalition calls for AgoraEU to become a key instrument to sustain and reimagine transnational cultural collaboration in today’s global context.

The survey highlights urgent challenges across the sector:
• 78% of respondents find access to cross-border funding difficult or very difficult
• Limited funding and extremely high competition are the main barriers
• The sector needs more continuity, trust, long-term support, and space for experimentation
• Current application and evaluation systems require fundamental rethinking

A balanced and holistic funding approach is urgently needed to support meaningful international partnerships beyond short-term project cycles.

We are pleased to announce that the submission deadline for the Open Call for Performances has been extended.

The ASSITEJ International World Congress is the flagship event of the global performing arts sector for children and young people, bringing together more than 1,000 artists, managers, scholars, and programmers from over 70 countries.

The Congress features an international festival with performances from six continents, alongside workshops, seminars, lectures, roundtables, networking sessions, and social events.

In 2027, ASSITEJ Korea will host the World Congress in Suwon, placing Asian performing arts at the centre of this vibrant global gathering.

As part of the 22nd ASSITEJ World Congress, we invite artists and companies working in the performing arts for children and young people to submit their productions through our Open Call for Performances. From snow-covered hills outside Ulaanbaatar to schools and kindergartens across Erdenet, the first chapter of Wanderlust has been nothing short of extraordinary.

Over 140 artists, organisers and participants, 14 performances from Mongolia and around the world, and countless encounters with children experiencing live theatre for the very first time. This first step of the regional cooperation project has shown the power of artistic exchange, access, and friendship in action.

Through the eyes of Sue Giles, we look back on an unforgettable journey with ASSITEJ Mongolia, and ahead to the next Wanderlust chapters in Indonesia and Nepal.

These past days, ASSITEJ International has been in Mexico City for our Executive Committee meeting. Alongside our internal work, we took the opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the sector, strengthen relationships, and engage with the local theatre community.

We were also delighted to be present at the 18° Gran Maratón de Teatro para Niñas, Niños, Niñes y Jóvenes, celebrating the diversity, energy, and commitment to theatre for young audiences.

We also had the opportunity to celebrate World Day of Theatre for Children and Young People together, and to continue advocating for the cultural rights of children and young people, highlighting the essential role of theatre and the performing arts in their lives.

20/03/2026

Children and young people from around the world share what theatre and the performing arts mean to them — how they inspire dreams, spark laughter, and open the door to imagination and emotion.

Through their voices, we see how live experiences nurture creativity, connection, and self-expression, giving every child the chance to explore their imagination and experience culture as a right, not a privilege.

Theatre is more than a stage — it is a space where young voices are heard, ideas are exchanged, and every story matters.

Staging the rights of children. TODAY. EVERYDAY.
