Happy Birthday to gallery artist Martha Skou, who was born on this day in 1982.

Martha Skou’s work explores themes of transition, rhythm, and interconnectedness through a material-based investigation of natural and systemic forces. Her practice examines how we experience and sense the energies that shape our environment - such as the movement of tides or the warmth of sunlight. Working across textile, stoneware, glass, and sound, Skou reflects on the relationship between internal states and external structures.

New works on paper by Sune Christiansen have just arrived at the gallery.

Sune Christiansen (b. 1976) is a self-taught artist who lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. He has developed a signature approach to figurative abstraction that is both obscure and playful. With vibrant, expressive colors, his works capture a distorted reality - inviting viewers to form their own opinions and interpretations.

Bricks Gallery is pleased to present ‘MONOCHROME’, a group exhibition featuring works by Adele Rannes, Galina Munroe, Inka Bell, Jakob Oksbjerg, Jakob Steen, Jon Erik Nyholm, Loren Erdrich, Louise Foo, Martha Hviid, Martha Skou, Mathias Malling Mortensen, Mikkel Ørsted, Morten Modin, Morten Plesner, Peter Larsen, Rune Brink, Simona Popovic, Sune Christiansen and Theis Wendt, with an opening reception on Friday, June 12 from 18-20.

What happens when a painter abandons the full spectrum, a sculptor commits entirely to black, or a photographer hands themselves over to a single, unexpected tone?

‘MONOCHROME’ started out as a straightforward challenge, a group of artists each asked to work with just one dominant colour. Simple in theory. Anything but in practice.

While some of the participating artists have always worked this way, others took it on as a willing constraint, a chance to strip things back and see what remains when colour stops competing with itself. What emerges, across the whole show, is just how much a single colour can hold: how charged it becomes, how physical, how surprisingly emotional.

The graduation show from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts is now open at Kunsthal Charlottenborg and we’re thrilled to congratulate Simona Popovic and the entire graduating class of 2026.

For her graduation work, Torsdags Åndedræt, 2026, Simona built a complete set, transported five tons of soil into a rented location, and directed hired actors in their finest clothes around a fully dressed dinner table. A radical shift from her usual quiet, observational snapshots.

The result is an eight meter triptych accompanied by a poem, stemming from a memory of her mother’s childhood: a family that dressed up every Thursday and dined together, unseen by the outside world. The work asks how we construct ourselves as families, what we perform for each other, and what quietly slips away in the process.

The work is on view at Kunsthal Charlottenborg as part of the MFA Degree Show until 9 August 2026.

We look forward to showing new works by Simona Popovic in our upcoming group exhibition MONOCHROME, opening 12 June, 2026.

For more information about her practice or available works, contact us at **[email protected]**

NOW OPEN

Gallery artist Martha Skou’s first major institutional exhibition, titled ‘STREAM OF STRINGS’, is now open at Horsens Art Museum.

The museum wrote the following about the exhibition:

“STREAM OF STRINGS unfolds through textile installations, ceramic reliefs, sculpture, and sound. Across materials, Skou engages with forces and phenomena we do not normally perceive directly—such as vibrations, waves, and currents. She brings them forward as physical and spatial experiences, where energy does not appear as something abstract. Instead, it circulates, shifts, and moves through both organic and inorganic materials, across bodies, spaces, and surfaces. [...]”

Read more at www.horsenskunstmuseum.dk.

The exhibition is on view through September 13, 2026, and is supported by the New Carlsberg Foundation, the Danish Arts Foundation, Statens Værksteder for Kunst, the Familien Hede Nielsen Foundation, the Aage and Johanne Louis-Hansen Foundation, and the Toyota Foundation.

Soon on view as part of ‘Den blottade jorden’ a solo exhibition by Pauline Fransson, opening on Friday, May 8, from 5-8 PM.

The colour red runs throughout the exhibition as a recurring thread. At times it dominates entire paintings. Elsewhere, it appears as a shadow or in contrast to more earthy tones. It emerges in small traces, marking moments of intensity, vulnerability, resilience, and transformation. At the same time, the red points to the ability to be within certain conditions, to accept them, and to adapt.
