Birth Doula & Birth Photographer - On Call -
What is a doula / birth photographer doing when she is not attending the actual birth? Being on call means being ready 24/7 - to stay near the woman (within 1 hour reach) to stay dehydreated to stay calm to stay well-rested well-noirished and alkohol free , to not make any appointments that can not be canceled/postponed. This is a period to study to research on obstetrics, reproduction technologies, health care, womens bodies womens hormones womens psychology and in my case doing artistic research based on these themes

Først kommer menstruationssmerterne ...

Unge piger begynder tidligt i smerteskolen, en oldgammel, selvbåren institution, der altid har taget imod sine elever med åbne arme. Pensum er omfangsrigt:

Først lærer de at affinde sig med voldsomme menstruationssmerter, og senere lærer de at føde i smerte, især i de nordiske lande, og senere endnu at ignorere tør, pinefuld s*x.

Da Ina Schuppe Koistinen, doktor i medicin, en dag blev ringet op af en avis og spurgt, om det var en god idé at skylle va**na med brintoverilte for at slippe af med ildelugtende udflåd, fik hun nok.

Af smerte, af skam, af uvidenhed, af kvinders egen modstand mod den forskningsbaserede behandling, der ville kunne hjælpe dem.

»Mange lider alt for længe og helt unødvendigt,« siger hun.

»Denne normalisering af kvinders smerte er problematisk. Vi er virkelig nødt til at ændre det, hvis vores døtre og børnebørn skal opleve en helt anden form for støtte i deres liv.«

Panagia - Maria - Marigold

In the Greek Orthodox Church, Panagia commemorates the Virgin Mary's passing and her assumption into heaven. The mood is celebratory. The day leans into eternal life, faith, colour and community. It is also one of the country's biggest public holidays, and most Greeks head to their family villages or favourite islands for the long weekend. -Ritual Matters -

Maria
Maria is the name of a very beautiful strong and wise woman and mother of two wonderfull Girls who I visited yesterday to perform a three hour postpartum closing of the bones ritual. I have Photographed and filmed the birthing of her two daughters too. I recall a greek orthodox Church in where I found a icon wall painting of Maria Magdalena giving birth to her celebrity son. Of course the painting was in the dark corner . But it was there.

Marigold
Calendula officinalis,Mary's gold,common marigold, the pot marigold, Scotch marigold, orruddles , is aflowering plant in the daisy family, Asteraceae. It is probably native to southern Europe, but its long history of cultivation makes its precise origin unknown, and it is widely naturalised. Knowledge, nutrition and care are very very important

And today 15th August is the estimated due date of a woman here in Copenhagen who I have promised to assist during birth. With care through hands and words. My medicine. And my camera. So now I sit here and wait. And that is the work. To wait. To be present . To be ready. To be attending. To be.
Images are important , care is important , every birth is important. Every moment is important.

Hvad er ligamentsmerter?
Doulaens arbejde er research og hver gang jeg arbejder med en ny kvinde lærer jeg noget nyt om kroppen og psyken, og hvordan de påvirker hinanden. Lige for tiden arbejder jeg med 4 gravide nye mødre og en af dem har oplevet ligamentsmerter tidligt i graviditeten og stadigvæk. Hun og hendes partner kan blive meget bekymrede. Her er det en god ide at opsøge viden og støtte fra fagpersoner.
