BOOKENDS at Dundee Book Festival 📚

We're excited to share that our 2024 exhibition BOOKENDS will be reshown for the first time at Dundee Book Festival this June!

📍Central Library, The Wellgate
🗓️ Thursday 18 June - Sunday 21 June

BOOKENDS is inspired by the adventures of pioneering Dundonian journalists Marie Imandt and Bessie Maxwell. For Dundee Design Festival 2024, design curator Dr Stacey Hunter invited 20 of Scotland’s most exciting contemporary designers to each create a daring and unique pair of bookends in response to their 1894 journey 📖

We are delighted that Dundee Design Festival has secured funding from Creative Scotland Expanded Festival Fund to return in 2027! 🥳

This support from Creative Scotland recognises the place of Dundee Design Festival not only in Scotland's festival landscape but also of the way that our programme puts Dundee and Scotland's designers on the global map! 🌍

Thanks to Creative Scotland for this significant investment. It's incredible that this announcement comes 10 years since the very first festival. The festival has grown with the same commitment and energy we've had from day 1. Thanks to all our designers, supporters and partners locally, nationally and internationally who have got us this far.

Our 2024 event report is live now on our website featuring reflections from exhibiting designers, volunteers, visitors and the design community. 2024 was our biggest festival yet -10,701 visitors experienced the work of 208 designers and makers working across furniture, interiors, jewellery, homewares, craft, graphics, textiles, apparel and more ❤️

📣What's next for Dundee Design Festival?

Over the last couple of months we've been working on developing plans and funding applications for the 6th edition of Scotland's national celebration of design, with the intention of returning to Dundee in September 2027.

⭐After the success of our 2024 festival we are excited about the possibilities for 2027 but realistic about the challenges we need to overcome to get us there.
