Craftsmanship is not something you can see fully in a finished piece, since so much of it happens earlier, in the hours spent working a material before it becomes anything at all. Many of our artists leave traces of that process in the final result, rather than smoothing them away.

Objects in Use

Brugskunst, or applied art, has always existed somewhere between what we use and what we look at. The two don’t necessarily have to be separate.

Many pieces end up sitting on a shelf, saved for a moment that somehow never quite arrives. Many of the artists we work with take a different approach, bringing aesthetics and use together in the same piece from the start.

Bertel Bjerre’s stoneware takes on different roles depending on how it is used.

His vessels can stand as objects in their own right, while at the same time becoming part of everyday spaces, holding brushes, pencils or other small things.

Made by combining different clay bodies and processes, each piece carries its own surface, pattern and character.

Egg cup by Ann-Charlotte Ohlsson, hand built in stoneware through slow processes and wood firing. The form suggests traces of organic structures and natural surfaces, balancing between the recognizable and the abstract.

‘Filosof’ lamp, created by architect Lars-Erik Ejlers in the 1990s,  relaunched by Fripon and Niels Ejlers in 2024.

Working primarily in clear glass, Julie Fuhlendorff focuses on material clarity and proportion. Familiar forms are reshaped by hand, refined through subtle shifts in balance and scale.

Her work move between function and sculptural presence. In use, they hold flowers, candles or branches, while shaping light and space around them.
