This elephant was the perfect exercise to practice line and wash: I first outlined the structure with pencil, then applied soft watercolor layers to build texture and volume on textured paper, and finally reinforced a few details with ink to add depth. 🐘🎨

It’s the same method I use in my architectural and travel sketches, but applied to an organic subject to better train water control, light, and shadow.

If you want to improve your ink + watercolor workflow, this video shows the complete process.

In this sketch, light and shadow are what really build the volume.
Before thinking about details, I focus on separating planes: what receives light and what stays in shadow.

Simplifying those masses is what makes the architecture readable.
What do you see first: light or shadow?

Sometimes your watercolor just won’t activate… and it starts sliding on the palette.

This is a quick fix you can try 👀
It helps reactivate the surface so the pigment mixes more smoothly again.

⚠️ Use it as a temporary solution.
For better long-term results, rehydrate your paints properly.

Has this happened to you? 👇

Drawing on a flight isn’t about passing time.
It’s about training your eye.

Start simple.
Focus on structure before details.
And don’t rush the process.

You’re not trying to draw faster,
you’re learning to see better.

Save this for your next trip ✈️

A few moments from our Watercolor Workshop ✨

Last Tuesday the 8th, we had a very special collaboration with the Naturhistorisk Museum, where colors, conversations, and shared time took the lead.

This reel is an attempt to capture a glimpse of that moment—the calm, the exploration, and the connection that naturally unfolded in the space.

Between brushstrokes and pauses, each person explored their own way of creating—no pressure, no expectations, just enjoying the process.

It became a space to observe, experiment, and connect—not only with watercolor, but with the way each person interprets what they see and feel.

Thank you for being part of this experience 💜

A simple notebook, a few markers, and the beginning of something new.

I like starting from something neutral—so I can shape it and make it part of my process.

Before every trip, every idea, every drawing… it all begins here. ✨

Sometimes it’s good to go back to basics.
To revisit simple exercises and set small challenges.

Like this one: a 15-minute sketch,
where the goal isn’t to draw everything,
but to decide what is worth showing.

Geometry, light, and shadow
are what build the volume.

I work only with ink and markers,
no pencil.
No going back…
just learning to accept and value imperfections.

Because in the end,
it’s not about perfection,
it’s about intention.

Some spaces are not defined by their size, but by how they handle light.

This illustration starts from a simple idea: a niche, a light source, and a contained composition. But what truly builds the space is not the object — it’s the contrast.

The background remains organic, almost unstable, while the structure is defined through precise lines. That tension between control and spontaneity is what creates depth.

The lantern is not the focal point by itself.
It becomes one through contrast — surrounded by shadows that guide the eye toward it.

In watercolor, this translates into layers:
loose washes to build atmosphere,
and defined strokes to direct attention.

In the end, it’s not just an illustration…
it’s an exercise in visual hierarchy and spatial construction.

One of the most fascinating things about watercolor is understanding where color comes from. In this experiment, red cabbage becomes a natural pigment… but the most interesting part happens when we change its pH. A simple kitchen ingredient completely transforms the color. This is not just painting, it’s observation, process, and curiosity. Would you like to see more experiments with natural materials? 🌿🎨

Drawing is not just about technique.
It’s about how you organize what people see.

In this interior, every element has a role:
– a dominant element that anchors the space
– a focal point that captures attention
– secondary elements that support the scene
– and a balance that keeps everything stable

This is what creates clarity, depth and atmosphere.

Good drawings look nice.
Strong drawings guide the eye.

💬 Do you think more about technique or composition when you draw?

This study explores how watercolor can be used to represent vegetation structure in landscape design.

By layering tonal washes and controlled ink lines, it becomes possible to suggest plant density, hierarchy and spatial depth within a small composition.

Part 2 of a series focused on landscape representation techniques.
