This past Sunday was a very special Sunday for the Postcards from Aarhus project as we wrapped up the year and, with it, the current stage of the project 🩷
In 2024, Postcards from Aarhus brought together 119 participants across nine walks in seven unique neighborhoods: Institut for (X), Gellerupparken, Øgadekvarteret, Sydhavnen, Skjoldhøjparken, Trøjborg, and Langenæs. I hope you all enjoyed your time walking and reflecting, but also! I really want to thank you all for submitting your pictures and stories: 1455 photos collected on the project’s board showcase and celebrate Aarhus through perspectives missing at the City Archive and on rare Aarhusian postcards.

On Sunday, we tried to find out what defines Aarhus. It looks like more obvious bikes, red brick buildings, rainy clouds, and omnipresent urban recycling practices go along with its high architectural contrast, the atmosphere of trust, street culture, and a tangible mix of clean, distant facades and private - a bit hidden but thriving - live and coziness. In our conversation on a sense of home, the absolute champion turned out to be food. It looks like food in all its materiality (specific ingredients, grocery stores, restaurants, furniture) and immateriality (habits and routines, the ways of sharing food, smells, and tastes) is the key to filling at home. Right after finding your people, of course 🥰
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined the workshop and walks! This project happened because of you 😍 and because of the residency and beautiful people at the UAC Art Platform where this project found home and support 💜 I’m also deeply grateful to all the organizations who hosted and supported us: Institut for (X), Godsbanen, Aarhus, Gellerup Bibliotek, Gellerup Museum, Frontløberne, SYDHAVNEN Aarhus, Beboerneshus Livøsmøgen, Skjoldhøj Kirke, Folkehuset Trøjborg, Trøjborg Beboerhus, Lagkagehuset Langenæs, and MarselisborgCentret. And special thanks to Kulturkammerater and Studenterhus Aarhus for spreading the word.
Here’s to future meetings and new iterations of Postcards from Aarhus! 💌
Yours, Katharina
