Kunstneren Signe Klejs skaber et spektakulært lysværk, der illuminerer Aarhus’ karakteristiske Ringgadebro fra 1938 og giver den ny betydning som lysende byport til Aarhus. HESITATION OF LIGHT vil lyse om kap med solnedgangen, og Ringgadebroen vil efter tusmørke stå oplyst i sin fulde form. Hver unik aftenhimmel, der bevidner dagens forløb og spår om morgendagen i atmosfærisk skala, vil definere b
roens kolorit. Fire kameraer vil pege i hvert sit verdenshjørne, og registrere farven i et givet tidsrum imens solen går ned. Broen iklædes naturens egen lyssætning og værket vil – qua sin store skala - gå i dialog med landskabet og byens arkitektur. HESITATION OF LIGHT tager navn efter den aarhusianske astronom Ole Rømers opdagelse fra 1675: Lyset har en hastighed – den højeste hastighed, vi kender. Værket tager dagens lys, får det til at dvæle og giver således Ole Rømers begreb om lysets tøven en ny betydning. HESITATION OF LIGHT tændes i januar 2017 og kan som minimum opleves helt frem til 2023. The artist Signe Klejs creates a spectacular piece of light art by illuminating Aarhus' characteristic Cityring Bridge from 1938 – changing its visual character, making it a glowing city gate to Aarhus. Hundreds of lamps will compete with the sunset, and by twilight the bridge will be lit up in its full form. Each unique night sky will define the bridge's color. Four cameras positioned on the bridge will point to every corner of the world and record the colors in a given period of time while the sun goes down. The information about the sky’s colors is then converted into the bridge’s new palette. Clothed in nature's colors – large and lit – the bridge will enter a new visual dialogue with the landscape and the surrounding architecture. HESITATION OF LIGHT takes its name from the Aarhus astronomer Ole Rømer’s discovery from 1675: Light has speed. This piece of art takes light, makes it hesitate, and brings a whole new meaning to Ole Rømers concept of the hesitation of light. HESITATION OF LIGHT will be launched in January 2017 og and stays on at least until 2023.
