ALF Artist Meetup is a monthly pop-up event where Aarhus Lydforening invites artists and partners working with music and sound to come together.
The purpose of this cosy social gathering is to create a space where people working with sound can connect, exchange ideas, inspire one another, and build meaningful relationships. It also provides a relaxed hangout spot where artists, professionals, and audiences can meet informally, spend time together, and become part of the community.
As part of ALTER, ALF Artist Meetup will expand into a daytime programme where ALF and ALTER create a space for exchanging ideas, experiences, and perspectives across countries, practices, and genres
The event brings audiences, local artists, and music professionals together with international artists from ALTER’s festival programme, creating opportunities to meet, connect, listen, and learn from one another.
Through shared lunches, talks, film screenings, informal hangouts, and open social time, ALF Artist Meetup at ALTER serves as a daily starting point and hangout spot for the festival. It extends the festival experience beyond the concerts and creates a welcoming space for conversation, inspiration, new connections, and simply spending time together

Before opening the festival with their concert at Aarhus Rådhus, NYX will host a workshop at PHONO on Wednesday, September 9th as part of the day programme!

Led by NYX Music Director Sian O’Gorman and NYX vocalist Rhianna Compton, the session explores the relationship between movement, listening, and the collective voice.

This session is open to both experienced singers and beginners of all ages. No prior singing experience is necessary.

About the workshop:
NYX’s practice is centered on vocal embodiment, deep listening, and collective participation.
Participants will be guided through straightforward exercises in breathing, listening, and shared sound. The focus is on presence, community, and experiencing how sound feels within the body and the room.

About NYX:
NYX is a choir working at the intersection of choral music, electronic music, and performance. Their work explores connections between body, architecture, and nature through vocal textures and electronics. They have collaborated with Gazelle Twin on the album Deep England, contributed to the Diablo IV soundtrack, and created projects with partners including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the National Theatre Studio, and the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA).

Please note that the workshop will be documented, but no pictures with participants faces will be posted without prior agreement.

You may remember Anton Gregers Mikkelsens surreal and absurdist comics from 2024’s edition of the ALTER book - This year we are very happy to invite him to create this year’s festival map, designed for smooth navigation and accompanied by a reasonably accurate introduction to the history of Aarhus/Århus/Aros.

Anton Gregers Mikkelsen graduated from the Academy of Good Comics (2023), shortly followed by the succesful debut publication “RAMBO THE EYE OF THE TIGER”. As a history student at the University of Copenhagen and former guardian of the Crown Jewels, his work draws inspiration from historical source material, the greatest comic fight scenes, and the ghosts he meets in the secret halls of Rosenborg. Anton brings untranslatable material into the language of comics in a style placed somewhere between reportage drawing and illustrative comics in which the dense, detailed linework marks him as a distinctly archival cartoonist.

Due to logistical issues, Joanne Robertson has had to cancel - but luckily Jennifer Walton, who wow’ed us with her concert at Rewire festival earlier this year, is ready to join us. Her songs work with the many aspects of grief, through equally surreal and poignant lyrics. The ebb and flow in the music’s intensity is sure to leave the audience awestruck.

jennifer walton is a London-based musician whose debut album Daughters explores grief, memory and surreal Americana. She’s also known for her work with Cryalot, Microplastics, Iceboy Violet, BABii, and remixes for Metronomy.

Keyboard Fantasies:
Emerging from years in isolation to an enraptured crowd, a transgender, septuagenarian musical genius finally finds his place in the world. Part biopic, part tour documentary, Keyboard Fantasies tells the time-travelling tale of this mystical musician and vocalist, as the present finally catches up with him and he embarks on his first international tour at the age of 74.

Capturing five decades of relentless musical output and shifting manifestations of gender and sexual identity, set against a backdrop of profound social change, the film celebrates the unpredictable rhythms of life.

A lullaby to soothe those souls struggling to find their place in the world.

Looking forward to inviting two great acts on the danish stage, joining up for a great show!

Yngel and Rasmus Daugbjerg have joined forces and embarked on a cross-disciplinary collaboration. Now they are releasing their first joint album, *Ulykkens Mønt*. The collaboration began in 2022, when the guitar duo Yngel and the writer Rasmus Daugbjerg were paired up for the Lyd + Litteratur festival. Emil Palme and Taus Bregnhøj-Olesen from Yngel and Daugbjerg met in a rehearsal room with two guitars and some unfinished lyrics. Through improvisation, a shared sound emerged: Yngel’s organic sounds complemented Daugbjerg’s fairy-tale-like lyrics, and vice versa. A new sound: narrative, sombre and tender. A new way of playing music, a new way of reading aloud and writing.

“Yngel play their guitars with stones,” says Rasmus Daugbjerg. “It’s quite a special sound – as if the stones are alive. Those stones also found their way into the lyrics. The music infected the words.” Ulykkens Mønt is a chest filled with stories, sounds and songs. About trolls, kings, moons and wolves. About care and loathing, loss and friendship. It is a small ecosystem of its own; every track teems with life, singing stones, living water, hopeful people, talking bells.

About the artists:
Rasmus Daugbjerg (b. 1993) is a graduate of the Danish Writers’ School. He has published the novels ‘Rygtet’ (2021) and ‘Trold’ (2022). He has received a number of grants and awards, including the Danish Arts Foundation’s three-year working grant, the Michael Strunge Prize and the Mare Kandre Prize. His books have been translated into several languages.

Yngel moves beyond familiar traditions to places few have been. Longing melodies and extended improvisations form the basis of their expression, with fragile complexity and melancholic resonance. The critically acclaimed duo has released six albums in recent years and toured Scandinavia, South-East Asia and England.

We are very happy to have swanasa play at ALTER this year!

swanasa is a sound artist known for immersive soundscapes that blend ambient and drone
elements with deeply transcendental themes. Her work combines organic field recordings
with synthetic sound design, exploring the subtle interactions between nature and
technology. His sound practice emerges from a search for “shaping time into space” through
the fusion of analogue and digital, ancient and contemporary elements. Her inspirations draw
from totemism, Jungian psychology, and Taoist philosophy.

Her debut EP, when you need to rest, let the sounds hold you (2023, EXILES), was praised
by The Quietus. Its organic continuation, The Mirror (2024, A Strangely Isolated Place),
further deepens this introspective, meditative sonic world, unfolding through the mutual
reflection of natural and synthetic sound layers. Together, the two EPs have formed the
conceptual core and structural foundation of swanasa’s live performances to date.The
atmospheric depth of her work is further reflected by the fact that Abul Mogard selected one
track from each release for his curated compilation mixes.
From 2026 onwards, swanasa will continue his work along new thematic directions.

Opening the festival this year, together with NYX, is Roxane Metayer - inviting the guests into a universe derived from animals and plants. It is surely going to be absolutely beautiful!

Visual artist and musician based in Brussels, work is a series of tributes to the forest, exploring the relationship between humans and the living world through various mediums such as sound, image, and sculpture. Metayer compose music that blends field recordings, acoustic instruments, and voice, creating a universe close to animal and vegetal mimicry. She has recently been working on polyphonic and spatialized sound installations, projects that have been presented in sound art venues such as Overtoon and STUK. Metayer has collaborated with other artists, most recently with the drummer Charles Dubois and Katya Shirshkova, and have led music creation workshops for young audiences. Her albums have been released on labels such as Edições, Blickwinkel, Kraak, Matière Mémoire, Morc, and Vlek, and she have performed in venues like Ancienne Belgique and Café Oto.
