Yiddish Summer Weimar - Intercultural Yiddish Culture Festival -

One of the highlights of Yiddish Summer Weimar 2026! “Togbukh” (“Diary”) is a new one-person show about Polish Jewish actress Rose Shoshana Kahan’s life as a refugee in Japan and Shanghai during WWII.
Based on her own diaries, togbukh features original music by Alan Bern, a libretto by Diana Matut, dreamlike digital visuals by Mirella Frenzel, Maximilian Stilke and Vanessa Könemund, and a tour-de-force performance by soprano Leila Schütz, under the direction of Maximilian Löwenstein.

An evening of discovery, experimentation, and new Yiddish sound worlds.

Concerts with Electric Rose and Chaia invited us to experience Yiddish music in entirely new ways.

Through archival recordings, electronic soundscapes, rich vocal harmonies, and acoustic instruments, forgotten stories and songs found a new voice. From the remarkable repertoire of Rose Cohen to Chaia's immersive exploration of memory, ritual, and diaspora, the evening showed how tradition can inspire bold artistic experimentation.

Thank you to the artists and everyone who joined us for this unforgettable musical journey 💚
