Genius Loci Weimar is an exciting international festival for multimedia facade projections and site-specific audiovisual performances. The festival combines the historical spirit of Weimar and the contemporary techniques of video mapping, involving static objects in order to create an additional geometrical dimension and optical illusion. Genius Loci Weimar combines an international competition, e

xhibition, workshops, club-event, and public evening shows of the awarded projections, thereby offering an overview of the current international video mapping art-production to a wide audience.

Genius Loci Weimar ist ein jährlich stattfindendes Festival für ortspezifisch entwickelte audiovisuelle Kunst, insbesondere (interaktive) Fassaden-, Raum- und Objektprojektionen. Das Festival verbindet den historischen Geist Weimars und die zeitgenössischen Technik des Videomappings, eine Projektionstechnik, die die Projektionsfläche in die Bildgestaltung einbezieht und so unbewegten Objekten eine zusätzliche Dimension verleiht und optische Illusionen schafft. Genius Loci Weimar bietet in einem international ausgeschriebenen Wettbewerb, einer Ausstellung, Workshops und dem Genius Loci Club eine Bestandsaufnahme aktueller Videomapping-Produktionen weltweit und lädt das Publikum zu prämierten Projektionsshows auf historischen Fassaden in der Weimarer Innenstadt ein.

Take a look at our WE ARE MAPPING recap from last year‘s festival 💚

The audience was invited to interact directly with the projected animations using green laser pointers and become not only viewers but co-creators of the work.

This year, we invite artists to create one-minute animations responding to the theme of „Your Echo in the Silence, Your Trembling in the Light“ that will be projected onto mon ami Weimar ().

Meet , a new media art studio from Chongqing, China, and one of the winners of the Genius Loci Weimar 2026 competition.

Specialising in immersive projections and light art, AOTOO has received multiple international awards, including recognition at the International Light Art Festival in Chongqing and the One Minute Projection Mapping Competition in Tokyo.

Join us this September as they bring their vision of this year's theme "Democracy & Society" to the Niketemple ().

Meet Rita Reis, a multidisciplinary artist from Portugal and one of the winners of the Genius Loci Weimar 2026 competition.

Working across illustration, sculpture, installation, scenography and video mapping, Rita explores how art can challenge perspectives, spark dialogue and inspire collective change.

Join us this September as she brings her vision of Democracy & Society to Schiller's Residence.

Her work has been exhibited at international festivals in France (Video Mapping Festival, Lille), Spain (Animap, Valencia), Brazil (Guará Mapping Festival, Guaratuba), China (Chongqing Light Festival, Chongqing), the USA (Digital Graffiti), and Portugal (Prisma Art Light Tech, Aveiro).

The wait is over.

After receiving nearly 90 submissions from 28 countries, our international jury has selected the winning projects for the Genius Loci Weimar 2026 International Video Mapping Competition.
