Requirements
Ableton Live 12 (Standard or Suite recommended).
A computer that meets Ableton’s minimum system requirements.
Headphones or monitors for accurate listening.
Mouse/trackpad; basic computer skills.
Optional: MIDI keyboard to speed up the creative process.
Files and samples included — no paid plugins required.
No music theory required; just a willingness to practise.
Description
Create tracks in Ableton Live 12 using a clear and straightforward workflow, from a blank project to the final file — without relying on paid plugins. We’ll start by setting up Live for speed (preferences, audio/MIDI, templates) and then move on to practising with Drum Rack, Groove Pool and dynamics for drum kits that really pack a punch. You’ll build basslines using Wavetable, Operator and MIDI tools, learning when to blend sub- and mid-bass for weight and definition.
You’ll master Warp modes to synchronise external loops, slice audio into MIDI for creative rearrangements, and create leads and pads with Instrument Racks and Macros. Next, we’ll structure the track: Locators, arrangement strategies, tension and release, build-ups, breakdowns and impactful drops. To keep everything clean, we’ll apply EQ Eight, Compressor/Glue, Saturator, Utility and Auto Filter, as well as essential sidechain settings (including ghost kick) to ensure the kick and bass breathe in unison.
