The Pro Plate Plus is a very neat bit of kit!

Essentially, it’s a fold-away tray that incorporates our paintbox and dock, two 350ml collapsible cups, and a large mixing area. It can be fitted either to our upcoming Plein Air tripod or the mini tripod (which is part of our Sketcher Kit).

In this reel, local artist Andrew Dockerill is putting the prototype through its paces with the full Plein Air rig. This shows just how adaptable and flexible our modular system really is! Working alongside professional artists is key to creating robust, truly innovative solutions.

⚠️ Please note: This is currently still a prototype! We are actively developing it, focusing on the mixing tray and exploring a few exciting features:

👉 Slide-out trays to accommodate extra paint cassettes or a sponge cassette.

👉 Built-in functionality for hanging your paintbrushes along the front edge.

Let us know what you think of the concept in the comments below! 👇

A key part of the Lintner system is modularity, and today’s example shows that idea in action.
While we are busy working towards fulfilment of the Sketcher Kit Kickstarter campaign, development of the wider Lintner system continues in parallel.

One of the core ideas behind the system has always been modularity. In this example, Phil demonstrates how components from the Sketcher Kit - including the paintbox, dock, and Stay-Level Tongue - integrate directly with elements of the future Plein Air Kit.

The paintbox mounts directly to a quarter-sheet carbon fibre painting board via the stay-level tongue borrowed from the clipboard. This in turn attaches to a lightweight carbon fibre standard-size tripod, creating a remarkably compact and portable setup for larger location paintings.

By allowing components to work across multiple configurations, the system can adapt to different ways of working while remaining lightweight, efficient, and easy to transport.

There is still development work ahead, but it is exciting to see the different parts of the system beginning to come together exactly as originally envisioned.

Following on from our last unboxing reel, here's a closer look at some of the details of the Sketcher Kit case.

One of the challenges with a modular system is that it contains a surprising number of individual components, such as, Paintbox, dock, mini tripod, universal clamp, water pots, and spare paint cassettes all need to be kept together, organised, and protected.

Rather than designing a standalone carry bag, our aim was to create a compact case that fits neatly inside a larger backpack, messenger bag, or piece of luggage. It acts as a dedicated home for the Sketcher Kit, making it easy to store, transport, and find everything when you arrive at your destination.

A lot of thought has gone into how the various components fit within the case, ensuring they remain organised and protected while keeping the overall package as compact as possible
le idea, perhaps, but one that makes the system much easier to live with day to day.

A first look at the carry case for the Sketcher Kit.
This prototype case is currently being developed as an optional add-on and is designed to keep the various components of the system organised, protected, and easy to transport.

The Sketcher Kit contains quite a number of parts — paintbox, dock, mini tripod, universal clamp, water pots, and accessories, so having a dedicated case makes it much easier to keep everything together and ready to go.

This is our pre-production sample and the result of a considerable amount of development and testing behind the scenes. We are very pleased with how it has turned out and excited to finally be able to share it with you.

As with the rest of the system, the focus is on practicality, durability, and making it easier to get out sketching with minimal fuss.

Putting the latest Lintner LITE production samples to the test.

In this reel, the paintbox is mounted to a café chair using our Universal Clamp, but the real story is the paintbox itself. These are early injection-moulded production samples, allowing us to evaluate the system in real-world use while we continue refining the tooling.

This stage is particularly exciting because it is the first time we can properly assess many aspects of the design using the actual production material and manufacturing process. Until now, most of our testing for the plastic parts relied on 3D-printed prototypes. While extremely useful for developing the design, they are relatively weak and simply do not behave in the same way as the final injection-moulded parts.

One of the realities of injection moulding is that the only way to fully evaluate a part is to build the tooling and produce real samples. It is a complex and expensive process, but it allows us to understand how the parts perform in practice.
We are genuinely delighted with the progress so far. Every round of samples gets us closer to our final goal, which is to get the final product into the hands of our backers.

Late pledges are still available on Kickstarter.

A lightweight setup for location painting designed around comfort and ease of use.
Using the mini tripod, the paintbox can be positioned beside the seated artist at a comfortable working height, keeping paint and water easily accessible without needing to bend down to the ground repeatedly.
It creates a surprisingly stable and compact setup while remaining highly portable — particularly useful for urban sketching, travel painting, and longer outdoor sessions where comfort becomes increasingly important.
One of the core ideas behind the Lintner system has always been reducing the small physical distractions around painting outdoors, allowing the artist to focus more fully on the work itself.

Painting out in Ely with the micro easel and local plein air group.

One of the things we’ve always cared about with the Lintner system is making outdoor painting feel simpler, more comfortable, and less intrusive — compact enough to carry easily, but stable and capable once set up.

The micro easel is designed exactly for this kind of day: lightweight, fast to position, and adaptable to different locations and working styles without needing a large traditional setup.

A very enjoyable day of painting, conversation, and testing the system in the environment it was designed for.

Lintner PRO - production machining is finally beginning.

After a long development process, countless prototypes, machining trials, and production preparation, we have now machined the first production unit to verify that everything is correctly set up before releasing the full batch into manufacture. Reaching this stage is a major milestone for the project, and it is genuinely exciting to finally see production parts starting to emerge from the machine.

This stage is about much more than simply pressing start on a CNC machine. A significant amount of work has gone into machining strategy, fixtures, tooling, tolerances, hinge alignment, and ensuring the process is stable and repeatable across the full production run.

The paintboxes begin as solid billets of aluminium, which are progressively machined into the final components over multiple operations.

Machining itself will take a few weeks, after which the parts move through the next stages of production, including vapour blasting, anodising, painting of the mixing areas, and final assembly.

It is genuinely satisfying to finally see the project moving from development and validation into real production.
