Soul Sophistication is an upscale sanctuary where verse, rhythm, vocals and emotions meld into a modern day joust event between vulnerability and creativity. Soul Sophistication presents the longest running open mic on Ramstein Air Base worth spending a Friday night! An open mic event where our peers shed their camouflage for neckties and high-heels; where we forgo our reser

vations and inhibitions through spoken word, song, instrumental performances and comedy.

-Passing of the Mic-

Soul Sophistication or simply “Soul” was started and hosted by Aron (pronounced “əˈrän” or “uh-ron”) Lee in February of 2013. Aron went by the moniker “Face” and yearned to bring the poetic landscape he had experienced as a performance poet in San Antonio, Texas to the E-Club stage of Ramstein Air Base. He did not want to simply host an open-mic but create a place where creative expression and opulence coalesce. Face started Soul Sophistication with a sparse amount of spectators and even less performers. Through his persistence and passion, on Soul Sophistication’s one year anniversary the event brought over 100 audience members and performers too plentiful to stage. This growth was evidence of the sheer desire the base populous holds for the opportunity to listen and share their experiences through poetry, song or any means of creative expression and to do so tastefully and with respect. Nelson now holds the mic to continue the artistic endeavors of Soul, as its organizer and host, alongside fellow performance poet and co-host, SION, to further enrich KMC audiences as a place for men to tighten their half-windsor, women to find the right shade of red and bring people of all influences together for a night of unifying expression.
