I am more and more figuring out, how to grow with my custom made frames. This Origami is the first ever painting leaning completely on the wall with a canvas of 4cm depth.
Compared to my previous frames, this one emphasizes even more, that much of my work is completed long before the first brushstroke is made.

Working with everyday paper fascinates me on many levels. On a deeper level, it allows me to reflect on themes ranging from the role of traditional media to alternative ways of accessing and consuming information. At the same time, it offers a space to incorporate highly personal influences, such as the fast-food wrapping from my favorite fried chicken restaurant.

Ultimately, all of these references and experiences are distilled into a single idea, which finally takes shape as a sculptural work on the wall.

For this work, I left the canvas aside and, for the first time in a long while, painted a woodcut again.

Spiral Bloom is a model made from three different patterned papers wrapped around a long wooden rod.

The spiral arrangement reminds me of the paper palms and little umbrellas used in cocktails. On the wall, however, it becomes a combination of craft, design, and painting. The painted effect creates a pull toward the center.
